MORE! It was just a bit too small and quiet sounding. So I returned my M12 1x12 combo, and got... MORE! I ordered a M12 head and Z-Best Cab and it is exactly what I was looking for. It still delivered 100% M12 tone but just more of it! Louder, fuller, farther and further throw! Man I'm a happy camper! I encourage y'all to at least try out your M12's through a Z-Best cab - it's amazing! I was thinking of going for a 3D Forte cab but I didn't for 2 reasons... I didn't want my sound shooting out sideways to other band members as they don't need that and prefer not to have that, and I also wanted a mini Surf Green stack. Its an amazing site, here it is!

;D Seriously, that's great. I love the vibe of the seafoam green Z's too. No part of any of my sundry amps and stuff looks as good as any of my Z's atop my Z-Best. I think it truly is one of the best looking combinations in ampdom Congrats Keith

AWESOME! I told ya!!! I highly suspected you just needed to pair it up with some speaks and a cab that gave you a bigger sound and more SPLs. I've run my M12 into a 4x12, several different 2x12s and several 1x12s and it always sounds just as big or bigger than all my other amps through those same cabs. The Z-Best is an amazing cab and I wish I had not sold mine, but it was a package deal. And, your little stack looks amazing too! Congrats! Does your Z-Best have a V30 and G12H-30???

Awesome! I'm glad you dig it. I knew that Z-Best would do the trick. There's more going on in that box than simply two speakers tossed in a cab. That rigs looks phenomenal by the way. Of course, I am a bit biased.

You were totally right and I am thankful for the suggestion! It was a big jump for me cuz of that price money-wise and the fact that I had to sell 3 major pedals to get it. But now it's great to say it was worth it. Now I'll just have to rebuild my pedals back up. My Z-Best has the stock configuration installed... G12H30 & V30.

What I like about the Z-Best cab is its ability to through a perfect sound and a full sound that still has the amazingly full but clear low end, it's wonderful.
I do have a question though, when the cabinet is standing upright... Which speaker is on bottom and/or which speaker is on top? I'm trying to figure out which one is which for mic'ing purposes.

Z-Best records better than all I've tried in the past, fwiw. I have a stock ZB from '00??? It kills in all areas. Doesn't hurt having a V1 Mazerati either...8) Seriously great choice on your part, ENJOY!!!
G12H is on the bottom when upright.

Well, you get what you pay for...ESPECIALLY when going with Z gear! A rig like that is really a lifer. Just did a big gig this past Friday with my M12 Forte 1x12 rig and it was just PERFECT. The great Chet Catallo of Spyro Gyra fame was there (a good friend for years) and he's never complimented me on my tone and shown an interest in my rigs, after all these years, until last Friday! I could feel it and hear it too, so I knew he wasn't BSing. In fact, Chet's KNOWN for not BSing, if you know what I mean! So, enjoy!

Well, just an update since its been a couple months now. I'm still really diggin' it and learning to dial it in better and better. I have been using the LO input more and more and it just smooths everything out and it's great. I have great throw of my sound and it works so well with pedals.

^^^
I've had amps that I've liked less and less over time. They're gone! But Zs just keep sounding better as one gets more and more attuned to what they can do and how to play them.

Yeah I like the other thread about using less treble. It's kinda tricky learning to dial things in not with your eyes. Cuz you naturally think that treble at noon is a balanced treble sound but it's not cuz 12:00 is FULL treble and then adds gain after that. So for me running the treble at 10:30 is great. And it makes more sense that way when considering noon is FULL treble.

Of course, I am a bit biased. I would like to know what's going on inside this cab besides speakers. Can you or anyone else elaborate? Well I'll try without getting into TOO much technical details. The Z Best was first built for me by a Backline company in Cleveland called Best Audio. Pete Felice who is a long time friend and employee took a dual 15 Thiele & Small PA bin and down sized it to a 2X12 cab. The great thing about the T&S design is that you can control the Trebel, Mid, and Bass responce of the cab with a few tweaks. The High end is controled by the Driver ( i.e. speaker) Mids are controled by the depth of the port shelf. Bass is controled by the size and hight of the horizontal port. Yes it is much more then just a closed back cab. Due to its front port the cab delivers a wrap around sound similar to an open back. This happens because in positive phase the sound is pushed out of the front by the forward moving speaker cones, and the negative phase rear speaker movement exits the port. But is focused and tight in the low end of a sealed cab. Guy's I can't tell you how many Z-Bests ( Named after Best Audio BTW) I built since I didn't serialize them but the number is in the thousands. DR.Z

I sell lots of different brands of speaker cabs, but as many in this forum (and probably a couple in this thread) can attest, I openly admit that I think it's the best cab made out there. It's a 2x12 cab with the umph of a 4x12. I'm definitely a combo guy myself, but honestly, as far as live sound goes, there's no substitute for that cranked amp through a 4x12 cab. The Z-Best does just that. Just for the record, in the past two years I have sold 108 Z-Best cabs with not a single one being returned. Back in early 2010 someone returned one, and it's the only one that's been returned to us ever. If I had to guess, I'd say we've sold 400+ over the years. Very impressive cab, Z!

DRZ, humbucker427: Thanks so much for the responses. That helps. I'd like to open up my cab someday and look inside the back buy am kinda nervous too. I don't want to ruin anything or the seal. Either way it's a great cab for sure. I remember comparing this to a normal open back combo and being blown away and how amazing the cleans still were yet the overdrive was MUCH better due to it being closed back. So glad I went for this cab. It did cost a pretty penny though. Now I'm having to rebuild my FX pedals array cuz I had to sell most of them to get this cab
