I'm suprised no one has chimed in. There are several RX users on this forum and I figured someone might have an insight on this. Maybe you stumped them You might try sending an email to Brent at Dr Z's.

If it were mine I would send it in and have it gone over. Don is the guy at Z who does the repairs and does great work. I send in most of my older Z's for a checkup and make sure there is no monkey business. Usually costs less than $180 including tubes and return shipping. Sometimes it takes a few weeks but it's worth it.
On the other hand I had a similar thing happen with one of my builds and it was one of my new power tubes red plating and dying.
good luck, keep us posted.

Might also want to try changing the rectifier - that may have failed along the way.

If there is no music store near you might try a Radio Shack before Home Depot. Bring the fuse with you wherever you go.

May sound trivial but have you tried multiple guitar cables? Occam's Razor and all.
Sometimes the shorting jacks for input can be finicky may want to hit them with some contact cleaner.

I have an '04 RXES that was on it's original tubes still in '09. They sounded fine but I re-tubed the whole thing in Sept '09 just because. Well just the pre amp and power tubes, but they've been running strong every since. I play at Church for 3 hours every Sunday with an extra gig thrown in every now and then, plus any rehersals.
The original EL84s I took out were given to a friend and he's been using them every since. I think you just got a hold of a bad batch.
