Just got a used Galaxie 2X10 combo about a week ago. I'd never owned or played through one before, so I started reading a lot of the older posts trying to glean as much info as possible, especially about the speaker /extension outs. The main speaker out is clearly labeled, but the general consenus seems to be that both should be used with 8 ohm loads. I have a few other 10's I wanted to try with this amp out of curiousity, but all are 8 ohms...pairing any in 2X10 mode would of course be 4 or 16, sooooo....here's the crazy idea; with both installed in the combo, why would it not be possible to run one speaker out of each speaker jack (as long as the wattage was ok)? This would not be any different than running any other 8 ohm load out of each jack, right?

One is 8, the other is is an extension out. From what I have gathered, if you use both jacks, it's going to be a 4 Ohm load.
16 out of the 8 is ok.
FWIW..... I have been told that Gary Hooker(Brad's sideman), uses 4 Ohm cabs frequently w/the Galaxie.

I recall from somewhere, I think it came from the Z shop, that the transformer is so overbuilt on the Gal that it's OK to run another 8 ohm speaker off the extension jack. You can always check in with the guys there to verify. (Try repairs@drzamps.com)

Right, 8 ohms out of each jack= 4 ohm total load. And I know it's ok to run a higher load like 16 out of the 8 jack..my question is, could one run two 8 ohm speakers in the same 2X10 combo cab, using the regular speaker jack for one, the ext. jack for the other. Still two 8 ohm loads equaling 4 total..correct? A reply on the older thread from Dr. Z himself suggested running an 8 ohm load out of the extension jack if you're using it. The stock Z 10's are obviously 16 ohms each in parallel...I was just trying to figure out how to try a couple of 8 ohm 10's at the same time and not hurt the amp, and it occured to me that running each speaker from each jack should accomplish that.
