Well I have a new amp day coming up. I just ordered a new Surf Green M12 1x12 combo from Humbucker Music. I got the stock Greenback in it. I sold my Maz to get it and I'm really looking forward to it. Ill be writing a full length review here soon... including how it directly compares to the Maz. Ill still have my Maz Sr. 1x12 combo w/ a Gold for a few days with my new M12 for a good comparative review. Stay tuned.

You can get knobs at pretty much any amp supply store on the net.
Tubesandmore.com Mojotone.com
Just to name a few. And they are called fender barrel knobs by most places.
And Congrats on a great amp, I think you will be impressed!

Oh but while we're waiting... I'm wanting to get some cream or white knobs for my new M12... any suggestions or help on that? Try Small Bear Electronics. When ordering knobs, just be aware that they're made to fit either smooth solid-pot shafts (with set screw), or the split-ones with ridges (no set screw). Check what ya got on there first, to see which ones you'll need.

Congratulations, it's a fantastic amp. The Surf Green up close is a knockout. My (Red) head has the black knobs. YES - They have a set screw...
*interested to hear your comments on the Diamond too, nice...

I spent a few days trying to decide on the Red or the Surf Green... they are both so cool. But in the end the Surf Green was for me. And thankfully for me - Humbucker Music had it in stock, and they are out of the Red... as well as most other colors.

I've been reading all the threads here and am seeing lots of negative reports of the G12M Greenback. It's kinda makin' me wonder about it now but I just couldn't afford the Blue at the moment. If money was no object I think I would've leaned more towards the Blue than the Greenback. But at the same time I see that Dr. Z strongly recommends the Greenback, as well as Humbucker Music. So I'd really like to hear more thoughts about this. Another major concern I have with the Greenback is that it's ceramic. And when I switched out my G12H30 for a Gold in my Maz I really liked the results.
Any info on this?

love the stock speaker. it's very versatile. there are others that work great too, but i think if you get the blue it deviates a little from the original idea of the amp as a clean pedal platform. that's not a bad thing but it just depends on what you want. i'm very very happy with the stock speaker, and wouldn't want a blue. if i ever look to change it i'd look at what jazzmaster has done (pretty sure that's his screen name, he did a big review of his speaker swaps).

Ab, congrats on the amp! Surf green is very cool. Love Strats in surf green too! LOL.
Regarding the stock Greenback G12M, it's totally subjective! IMO, there is no "good" or "bad" speaker, just speakers that sound good or bad to YOU and possibly everything in between, depending on the speaker/cab. Keep in mind too that different cabs can make the SAME speaker sound completely different, almost like different speakers.
In the case of the M12 1x12 combo, I did not like the G12M, but I do love them in 4x12s, in which they sound like a very different speaker to me. In fact, I liked the M12 best into my Germino 4x12 with Scumback G12M PVCs and EC Collins grill - amazing!
In the M12 cab, I liked the WGS Blackhawk HP Alnico best. But, the Tone Tubby H1E Alnico, EVM-12L and RWB also sounded fantastic. However the G12M, G12-65, Scumback M75-LHDC, G12H-30 and Vintage 30 just did not seem to work for me at all with the M12.
Fwiw, the BH-HP also sounds amazing with the M12 driving it in the Forte 3D112, second only to the PVCs in the Germino 4x12.
Unfortunately, the only way to find out what sounds best to you is to try a few. But, IMO, before judging a speaker, you absolutely must thoroughly break it in, either by playing it really loudly for a dozen or so gigs or whacking it with a variac at 1/3 power or loud guitar loop for a food 24 hour stretch.

Well after my first day with my new M12 I have to say I'm 50/50 about it. It sounds wonderful with my Strat! No complaints whatsoever. But when I play with my Hamer Studio Custom (humbuckers) I'm having a lot of trouble with it. It sounds so thin and weak and when I activate my overdrives the tone is just too squishy and compressed and boxy sounding. I called Dr. Z and Humbucker Music about it and they said that was strange. But I can't seem to remedy it. Any help anyone? Ill probably start another thread about this to get some help. Also - it was way quieter than I expected it to be... It actually might not be loud enough for my live playing environment.

where are you setting the treble/bass? if you are well below noon, then all you are getting is pure clean headroom. try rolling them up past noon and see if that makes any difference.
my M12 is a monster with humbuckers and pedals sound bigger than ever. sounds like you definitely have some sort of problem.

It actually might not be loud enough for my live playing environment. What you describe does not sound like a properly functioning M12 to me. This is a Suhr DSH bridge humbucker into a Jetter GSR @ max gain in HI mode. It doesn't sound thin, weak, compressed or boxy to me at all and it even gets a little punchier, smoother and rounder in LO mode. Even the stock Greenback sounded fat and punchy like this WGS BH-HP but with a different base tone and about 1dB quieter at the same settings. Sounds like you have a bad tube or tubes somewhere...or possibly shipping damage internally. www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11793615&q=hi&newref=1www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11793617&q=hi&newref=1(Accidentally didn’t switch the OD pedal on at first, so you can hear clean straight into amp followed by OD.) www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11798310&q=hi&newref=1
