I am ready to add a Dr Z to my small collection of amps (Swart AST and Victoria 5112). I am considering either an M12 or a Z28. I have played the Z28 and liked it but am wondering if the M12 is a better choice since my both current amps are 6v6s. (I have not tried the M12.) I play only at home and would likely get a 1x12 combo. I do use some pedals but mostly plug straight in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey alex- Welcome to the forum. I haven't tried an M12 either.....yet~ But I just got a Z28 and I LOVE IT!! You may have a point about too many 6V6 amps... I have EL84's covered....and well as 6V6's.....now I need to a some FAT boys.... to the herd....KT66 baby!! Good luck with your choice.... Can't go wrong either way.

a Z28 is going to be LOUD! I am finding my M12 head to be the perfect amp for my reasonably low volume needs. It eats pedals alive and has a super feel and amazing tones from really clean to nice and raunchy, all at magagable volumes.
i cant tell you how much i love this amp!

I'm finding that the M12 is great when you need lower volume than say a ghia or maz. It can still be pretty loud though and gets to the sweet spot quicker as well. Inside gigs would be no problem with the M12, especially if you can mic the cab.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ordered a Z28 head and 1X12 with a Greenback today. Should arrive in 2-4 weeks.
