My new Maz 8 Studio Combo arrived today. I am however somewhat disappointed . I had requested a non-floor model, brand new amp. The amp arrived but it was not wrapped in plastic the way my other three DR Z amps all came. I specifically told the seller (a reputable DR Z dealer) that I wanted a brand new amp, not a floor model, which they assured me that it wasn't. Judging by the way it was packed for shipping, this amp has floor model written all over it. Let me ask you, am I going crazy or don't the brand new DR Z amps all come completely wrapped in plastic? I will not mention the name of the dealer, but I am not at all pleased ....I do not think I am being petty here either, considering the pricetag of this amp. It's not worth it for me to ship it back , which is what I would really like to do. I don't know, I just don't like people playing me, I guess.... Anyone else have a similar story? BTW, the amp seems fine but this is a matter of principle I suppose! I don't like the idea of a bunch of people messing around with my brand new amp before I even laid hands or eyes on it! I really don't like being lied to when I'm buying something even more. I know, just deal with it I guess ......I will stay with Humbucker Music from now on when I'm buying a new Z......

Somebody probably just checked it out to decided between amps. Not a floor model per se. The shop you bought it from likely just did a crappy job boxing it back up. As long as it looks and sounds new, I wouldn't return it as it wouldn't be worth the hassle.

My Maz 8 head did come neatly wrapped in a plastic sleeve packed in the foamed Dr. Z box. I assume the combos do as well. As long as it's in mint condition and there are no issues with it I wouldn't let it bother me too much. I feel ya though! You wanna unwrap your presents yourself!! Just plug into that baby and enjoy!! You'll forget all about it in no time. KC

It's possible that the dealer tested it to make sure it was fully functional before sending it on to you.

^^^ that would be my guess, tubes come loose and such so I would want the dealer testing it before it shipped. The amps ship from the Docs in a grey plastic bag that has shipping foam sprayed inside the box to protect the amps. I've seem them packaged, the expanding foam is very neat to watch

It's possible that the dealer tested it to make sure it was fully functional before sending it on to you. Exactly. Just an extra step in quality control, and the dealer has a vested interest in sending out amps that they know are in working order. I wouldn't worry about it to much. Enjoy that amp! jw

It's possible that the dealer tested it to make sure it was fully functional before sending it on to you. It's actually required by Dr Z that the amp be tested by dealer before shipping to buyer. This process starts the warranty. I guess some dealers repack them better than others. +1 for Humbucker.

My dealer asked if I wanted it tested before final shipping, and I enthusiastically said yes. I guess the lesson is good communication up front. If the amp looks and plays mint, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, I just over reacted I guess...... the amp is a gem, nothing else I can say.... the guys in the band like it even more than the Maz 18 NR, go figure! I seem to be able to get the same sort of tone with a bit more grit for soloing ....at lower volumes, perfect! I guess the difference is being able to work the final without making everyones ears bleed....Absolutely a great amp Doc.....

I have many, many Dr. Z Amps. I go through a local dealer. They always call me when the amp comes in and they always ask me if they should wait until I get there before it's open. BUT... sometimes the shipping boxes have a dent and these guys open them in front of the UPS man in case there are issues, which is always a good thing.
Glad you like the MAZ 8... I love mine too!

Yeah, unfortunately, I did not check mine out thoroughly, I saw a small (fork lift type) dent on the box, thought nothing of it but later found a rather large ding in the cabinet edge... Having said that, I can only blame myself for not examining the amp closer upon arrival, I never had a problem before with UPS but it's way too late now to make any kind of claim..... The amp works fine though and I don't think I will be looking to sell it anytime soon! It might be a problem if I do though....duh!

My latest UPS tale: We had ordered a couple of nightstands. Large boxes, naturally, since these are fully assembled units. UPS typically comes pretty late to our house, like 7:30 pm. But I hear nothing, no doorbell, no knock. I open the garage door to go out. Huge boxes stacked in front of the door. One has a gaping hole. I call the merchant and am told it's OK to open and check the actual furniture for damage. Well, it's damaged. Surprise Tomorrow I'll begin the return process. I'm anticipating that I'll have to fight to pay no shipping. It will be fun Oh, the MAZ 8 is indeed a great amp.
