just got my m12 on Saturday. I had planned to immediately get the pedal board hooked up and start learning how to set this thing up. the best laid of plans...
The thing is, i really cant get over how terrific this thing sounds AND feels just running a strat straight in. the clean pedal platform stuff is all there. the lo input sounds amazing and i am sure it is going to eat pedals alive.
However, there is so much harmonic complexity, swirl, magic dust - whatever you want to call it - that i simply dont want to plug the pedals in yet (i did plug in the board for about 10 minutes, but immediately went back to just guitar and amp) and havent tried anything other than the strat!
Bottom line is that the EF86 has just exactly the right amount of complexity, but not too much. And the 5Y3 rectifier gives just the right kind of "feel". To me, the M12 is kinda like the perfect golf ball - long off the tee, but soft around the green (all the golfers will get this). I am not aware of anyone else ever using this combination of EF86 and 5Y3. Personally, i think its brilliant!
Thanks Doc! Been waiting on this amp for a long time.
More thoughts to come...

JR, I couldn't have said it any better. This may be the Z-amp that outshines, in popularity, the Maz 18 (if any amp ever does accomplish that feat).....For me, it's definitely the best gigging amp I've ever owned....

Lee, I totally agree! I've owned 4 Maz jr's, a RT66 and a ghia and this little jeykl and Hyde amp is the best of the bunch! And i loved all the other Z's a lot! Beautiful cleans to nasty-nasty, this thing does it all and at a volume that 99% of small rooms are going to be happy with.
BTW, I finally plugged in the LP and was blown away with the straight up 70's rock tones coming out of this thing. The amp really loves a blue!
