Ive had this happen on quite a few amps, you get this crackling paper sound at idle, unplug the guitar same thing. Normally I clean the tubes with spray, retension the tube sockets and it takes care of it. I have a victoria 20112 that I am having problems getting rid of it. I changed all, the tubes already just to check it out. Any ideas

You're a pretty savvy tech JT, so I might not be shedding any light here, but if you can r/o all the connections and tubes, then I'd bet it's a cap or resistor....especially if it subsides a bit once the amp has been running for several minutes....

lee: I retighted all the tube sockets and clean the tube pins. its still doing it, it gets worse as it warms up. I'm thinking a resistor-as the it changes with heat, maybe the cathode bias even. I know i'll figure it out but is usually works with the cleaning readjusting etc.
funny the volume/tone adjustment is really similar to my ghia, crank it all up and control it with the guitar......

Carbon comp resistors are prone to popping / crackling sometimes as they age , don't know if your amp has any but if it does that may be a place to check.

beer now, amp later....i'll have another look tomorrow, these things usually have a simple fix. I chopsticked the whole thing and thats good.

Turn the lights off and watch the tubes.

You might try a little cool-spray on selected components. If you hit one and the sound changes, you may have found the culprit. Do not let the cool spray hit the tubes!

ok, I -cleaned and re-tensioned the tube sockets, twice! -changed all the tubes -chopsticked the whole thing, nothing apparent but crackling stopped when i pushed on part of the fiberboard....one screw was loose. Tightened it up and works fine. New one for me, usually its the tubes/sockets etc.

Cool , glad it was an easy fix. Maybe that screw was a ground path?

I was going to suggest that you might have a screw loose oops, I mean a loose screw. Glad you got it figured out.
