Got lucky and scored a Mini Z chassis only and had already started on a deal for an empty head cab so I got the complete head for a good deal. Waiting on a 2x12 cab I have on order from Swanson but through a repro Tremolux 2x10 cab I'm liking the Mini! I think it's a 2010 - it's got the built in Brake Lite. Hope to spend some more time with it this weekend, maybe do the preamp tube swap for a 12AY7. Now I have to search for a sweet NOS EL84!

Cool rig coming together! I used to have a Bad Cat Mini, also single 12AX7 into single EL84. Better glass than the stock JJ wildly improved it. I ran a NOS Philips JAN 12AX7 and a new production Gold Lion. Less than $50 and that little amp SANG.

Let me know how that 12ay7 sounds everyone swears by it for a bit more headroom.

I checked my tube stash and don't have any 12AY7's except what's already in other amps. I have an unused Sovtek 5751 so I tried that and it seems to give a bit more headroom and sounds smoother overall than the stock JJ 12AX7. 9 o'clock on the dial is a bit cleaner (with an SG with 'buckers) than with the AX. This 5751 will stay in for now until I can get a 12AY7.

Here's a photo. I ordered this speaker cab a few months ago and it just arrived. 2x12, I loaded it with Eminence Tonkers.

Bought a new EH 12AY7 from the Mojo booth at the Philly Guitar show today. With just a few minutes of playing the Mini it sounds good! It's much smoother, probably quieter overall which doesn't matter for playing at home. I can still get the grind, but it seems to clean up nicer with the guitar volume controls than before.
