I love everything about every description of KT45 and every clip I've heard. It sounds like what I'm after, but I'm in a unique situation and to play one I'll have to order it in.
These days I'm playing a copy of a Fender Bass VI (and occasionally a homemade Baritone). I use lots of pedals. My main live rig is a Traynor Custom Special (YBA-3) modded for KT88s, going into an old 2x15 cabinet.
This rig is awesome and it will probably always be my big rig, but over 2 it drowns out a loud drummer and my singer's AC30. Quite a bit of the time I could use a smaller rig that can still keep up with a drummer, pack some loud and clean bass punch on the cusp of dirt, sound good through the guitar range leads I play on it, and take pedals nicely.
Any thoughts on if the KT45 can handle my needs? Also, what cabinet? I was thinking of going Z-Best.
It's a tough call because a Bass VI being short scale with guitar pickups doesn't boom like a regular bass, but it still needs a few more watts than a guitar rig to keep up over a drummer.
Any thoughts? Tips?

My new band CHAMPION LOVER is debuting at NXNE on June 14th at Rancho Relaxo and I'll be playing a Shyboy Bass VI (Brad from Capsule Music made it) into a late 60s Traynor YBA-3 loaded with KT-88s for that one. It's a good show if you can make it down. We're on at 9. Hind Legs out of Halifax are phenomenal and on right before us. Papermaps are also great and on an hour after us. www.facebook.com/events/353060264758362/

Thanks for the update. Will pencil-in the date ... but no promises as family-life been keepin' me busy as of late. What I can say about my minimal exposure to KT-45 is that is one loud and clean amp. And, I see ya got the YBA-3 .... cool. Have owned/experienced a good portion of the vintage Traynor back-line in my pre- Z days .... cheers always, Joel

In my opinion, I think this is the best Z amp for bass. As Joel said, it has the highest clean headroom. It's really loud, too. There was a question a few months back about the Delta 88 being good for bass (the 88 being the highest wattage Z), and I said that I didn't think it would work well because it wants to OD fast. The KT45 is kind of on the opposite end of the spectrum in that you need to crank the controls to get it to OD. I have played bass through a lot of different Zs. Unfortunately, I sold my bass before I got the KT. But based on experiences w/ the other Zs I've played bass through, I think the KT would be the best. And as the Bass IV is really just a baritone guitar, I think you'd be set. I think w/ the right speakers, it'd do quite well for bass. And it makes one heck-of-a guitar amp!

I'd go with either 10"s or a 15"

I'd go with either 10"s or a 15" Why is that? Keep in mind I want heft and clarity to a degree but I'm not going for traditional bass sounds. ...and I already have a big old Traynor 2x15 for when only the fatest booty will do. Still, if Z made that 4x10 in a convertible cab, I'd be a VERY happy man.

My experience with my baritone is that lower freq like 10" and 15" speakers better than 12"s.

FWIW, I'm going to try mine with a 4-string bass and a 2x12 cabinet with Vin30s within the next couple of weeks. I'm thinking it will work since I won't be required to play very loud.

I just ran my KT-45 with a Precision base into a 4x10" 400 watt 8om bass cabinet and it had some real bass thump. Not sure if that helps answer your question but I'd play bass through it in a small to mid size venue

I ordered up a new Squire Bass VI and when it finally comes I'm going to try running it through my KT-45 w/ a 2x12 C. Golds.

At an outdoor gig not too long ago my bass players amp went kaput right before we were about to start. Had the KT with me for back up and so I let him use it. It sounded great. That was through a 4X10 bass cab. I would think the Z-Best/KT combo would be great for bass.

I'm no purist, and when I play bass I usually go direct to the PA through a Tech21 Bass Driver, but when I use an amp, it's the KT-45 out through a 2x12 cabinet with Vin30s. It's fairly loud and works fine.

Update: My Bass VI sounds awesome with the KT-45. Sometimes I use a bass amp and sometimes when I want a bit more guitar tone I use the KT-45..it's really a great combination. Out of curiosity I tried the Bass VI with a few of my other guitar amps and had mixed results but the KT-45 (and my 2x12 Z-Best) is a great combination.
