anyone hear anything about this?
All new new low power tranny for the Maz 8 being offered in the Mini Z? Supposed to really sweeten up that amp, from what I am told, I have not head it myself though . . . . .
I'm going to see if I can get Michael's mini in for an upgrade in June.

So what exactly does the new tranny do to the mini? Does it change the tone, does it give more clean headroom? Does it increase distortion? Does it increase volume. Help a guy out.

Anyone know the status of this video?
I have a Vox AC4HW on order and am tempted to cancel and get a Mini Z combo. However, I can't find a decent video of the Mini (other than the GMD stuff).

surely you have not missed this one? Surely I have not... ;D But that's the older mini combo and not the new 1x10 combo with the new trannies and 10" speaker. Keith

I can't speak for the AC4HW, but I have an older AC4TV combo and a Mini Z.
The Mini Z blows the Vox out of the water. It's so much more responsive. It may have a little less low end (because of open back vs closed, maybe), but I put a 10" Greenback in mine and it gave it some more bass. The Mini Z is not as Voxy, obviously, but but it has a much wider range of sounds.
Be aware that if you order a new Mini now, it might still have the old transformer. I ordered mine about a month ago from Humbucker and it came with the old transformer. So if you specifically want the new one, you may want to double confirm.

Thanks I'd be ordering it from Long & McQuade in Canada. They don't stock them, so it would come directly from the Z shop (and I assume then it would have new trannies). I had a look at the Humbucker site too and it says the 110 combo comes with a Legend alnico? I thought the stock speaker was a Ram Rod? I'll have to decide today whether or not to cancel the Vox and order a Mini. So, maybe I'll just send a quick email off to Brent to clarify a couple things Keith

Yes, I'd email or call them. Humbucker's site does say the Legend is stock. I've heard people talk of the Ramrod coming stock, however.
I actually bought mine as a head, then bought the 1x10 cab separately and converted it into a combo. The cab came with the Ramrod. I was not crazy about the Ramrod. It was very mid-heavy to my ears. Could have needed longer break in, but I decided to put the Greenback in, which I love. It's not near as loud, but it sounds great.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I ordered the Vox too...it comes with a 12" greenback. This is going to be a living room/upstairs amp for me so that bodes great. Normally all my Z's I order as heads too as I have plenty of cabinets. However, where this one will stay out of the Man Cave, I wanted a small combo (read: wife-friendly ;D). Keith

That's exactly what I use mine for, lower volume at home playing. I'd definitely suggest the 10" greenback, it is perfect for me for those purposes. And when I decide to crank it, it's the perfect volume dimed for my Warren Haynes tones. The Ramrod was too loud dimed, and harsh sounding. The Greenback is perfect. And if I ever want more clean headroom, I can plug it into the speaker in my Maz. If you have cabs already with more efficient speakers you could do the same.

My apologies KeithA. Thought you were after Mini Z video of any kind not particularly the change of transformer. However it still sounds like a Z or is that just Buddy?

Lol...all my Z's sound like they are broke when I listen to Buddy wail away on one I think there was some rumour this summer past that a new Dr Z video (maybe Dave B?) was imminent for the new Mini. That's really what I was wondering about as well. No apologies necessary..all feedback is good Keith

FYI
Heard back from Brent and the new Minis that ship out now will have the new trannies.
As well, the stock speaker is the Ramrod. That's a bit odd since Humbucker has the Eminence Legend as stock and the rear shot on the Dr Z website of the combo seems to have he bent metal back of the Eminence Legend as well.
Anyway, figure I'd update this incase anyone is wondering....
