I finally ordered a Brakelite today after using my Maz for 2 years now without one ( though it was highly recommended through my amp-dealer when I ordered the Maz ). Hope this gives me more possibilities in Live-applications. I used my Maz mainly for studio-work the last years but now it has become my main stage-toy I read a lot of good reviews about the BL here and am a little bit excited... Well, it's no new amp but something with a "Z" on top !

I like mine a lot. Clicks 3 and 4, the most attenuated settings, I find useful mostly for home practice. They seem to take away from the tone or add some artifacts. (Steve (benttop) has some carefully made demos that also indicate it may be the Fletcher-Munson effect in operation.) For performance click 2 is the max attenuation I will use. If it's still too much, I'll pull the Master down a bit.

Do yourself a favor when you fire up your amp with the Brake Lite. Put it on 4 clicks and start there. Dial up your tones. THEN use the Brake Lite to turn up. You'll be much happier with how it performs than if you do it the other way around. But you don't have to believe me - try it cold both ways. I think you'll hear the difference. I know I do, and there are a lot of other guys who discovered the same thing. Try it.

Let me add that I agree with the approach Steve described. I often practice with a MAZ 8 with the BL on 3 or 4. A tone I like at those higher attenuation levels almost always is a tone I love after taking the brake off!
But I stand by my previous comment. I think it possible that the amp's interaction with the BL and the fact that less power is getting to the speaker can have a genuine effect on tone. My guess is this is more likely with a low power (handling) speaker like the Cel Blue, which is in my MAZ 8.

I stand by my previous comment. Yep, most people do. If it's there though, I sure can't hear it. Of course I can't hear anything at all, so maybe there's that to consider...

^^^ My hearing's pretty shot too, Steve. It could just be that all I'm hearing is the persistent chirping in my left ear going up and down in volume.

Oh, I forgot to share my impessions since the Brakelite is working for 2 weeks now in my Maz... And that says it all - The Brakelite is a wonderful "must-have" and I don't understand myself for not ordering it from the beginning Went straight to my Combo and has helped in some situations where volume was an issue. The Brakelite does a terrific job, love it !

I use mine at home at about 2-3 clicks at the most. My hearing is pretty bad too guys.. I probably should try what Steve recommended. It does alter the tone in my honest opinion. At 4 clicks I can really hear the difference. But hey I am trying to save my ears and honestly the brake lite is the best that I have tried. I can still get some great sounds with it. Another trick I use is I have a Catalinbread Dirty Little secret pedal and I use that at the end of my chain right before my tuner and delay. It is a foundation pedal that I stack my other pedals into. I use it as a Master volume. So I can get some nice distortion and overdrive tones at really low levels Just by controlling its Volume. It has a old school Marshall tone too it so it fits right in with the Maz and the remedy.
