Im sorry to make everyone say the same thing or repeat things that have threads. I did read up on this. But I tried the lower setting seems like less gain less girth. But soumded so good with a strat the Gal is. Soooo loud!!!!! Wow. I have 2 original 12-65 may give a try. I have another 1 x12 cab coming may try something less efficient or should I just leave in triode? ?? This amp may be a bit snappier than my Ray. ;D

I love this switch. It is one of the two original mods on this amp from a tweed Super. The other of course is channel 2. I feel the amp responds more like it has 6v6 output tubes in it using triode mode. The Pentode mode broadens the soundstage and does respond just a bit different depending on which 6l6 you use.

Makes sense to me. Been splittin' time between my Galaxie and Z-28 as of late .... Strats, SGs, ES-339 and SC-245 ..... and, you've just helped me sort-out some of the sonic-sound-scape ..... cool indeed Still seem to be on pentode most of the time .... but the triode is sweeet ;D

You guys are killing me with all this Galaxie talk, GAS pains...
I probably never gave the triode enough time cause it sounded so good on pentode and missed the thud when on triode. Minor but still enough for me to always switch back to pentode.
Jamie, the Galaxie unseated my Ray as the go to amp. Of course then I start missing the el84s and ray chime and went back to the ray.

That's alot to divide the duties with for sure. Another thing I recommend (if one has multiple guitars for a reference point) is to experiment with the action and pickup settings on one guitar. This is somewhat true with any good amp but the Galaxie has detail that can reveal things in a guitar setup. It also can be a huge factor in channel 2 blend and attack. I've raised up the action and lowered the pups and been pleased with the results. You get more of that D.Betts sing

Oh yeah I play the old SRV action on most of my guitars, I think they ring a lil better, If too high they will sound out of tune, I have all my Strats pups almost buried, and the Humbuckers lowered quite a bit, Makes them have more Treble and Attack ;D
