Lately I've been using a Tweed Deluxe clone that I built for really low volume shows where my MAZ Jr is too loud. I like it a lot but I miss the sound of the Jr. Has anyone had enough experience with a Deluxe to compare the volume of it to a MAZ 8?

My Clark Beaufort 5E3 replica is much louder than my Maz 8. I loved my Maz 8. Same great tones as the Maz 18. Just not quite enough for me. Always wanted just a little more and it just wasn't there. But that is exactly what the Doc designed it for. Awesome love volume amp!

Yup, my Clark is quite a bit louder than my MAZ 8. The 8 works very well for small gigs for me, so it's a keeper.

I did a brief side-by-side this afternoon. I plugged into the Clark through Bright 1, had tone around 8-9 (on the 1-12 scale used on this amp) and volume around 5-6 (same 12 scale). With that I could use the volume controls on an LP to move from clean to dirt.
The MAZ 8 was able to keep up with the volume. V and M both about 1:30 (shifting to o'clock scale now) to do that and plugged into the High input. Had the tone knobs mostly around 10.
The 6V6 powered Deluxe has got a characteristic smoothness that contrasts with the brightness and compression of the EL84. The low end on the MAZ is tighter. (Cel Blue not known for extremely tight bass; Jensen in Deluxe also gets woofy.)
I think the 5E3 might stay cleaner/more rounded at an output level at which the MAZ 8 will have moved into a grittier sound.
Two very nice amps.
Then I plugged in my Z-28. That's a whole 'nother story ;D

All 5E3 type amps I have played with 2 6V6 is cleaner and louder than my Maz 8. Yes, my Clark had more to go before it ceased offering clean; the 8 was pretty much done. What I noted was that the notes smear together more, in a pleasant way, earlier on the 8.

I have an old Fender Tweed Deluxe 5E3 that has been through the grinder and lives on as my loaner amp. Everyone who uses it loves it's tone. It has an upgrade output transformer, PIO coupling caps, and cool NOS preamp tubes.
Compared to my Maz 8 it is a little bit punchier and a little bit louder. Not huge amounts either, just a tad. The 8 is clearly and obviously more toneful and musical, and that takes nothing away from the 5E3.
So it comes down to your perception of "loud". Mine is that the 5E3 is "louder" but the Maz 8 is far more useful.
