Hi Folks, first post here. My wife ordered me an Air Brake for Valentine's day...which is pretty cool. I have a Marshall TSL and an Orange Tiny Terror I use through an old Marshall cab with 4 g12m -65 speakers. Both these amps sound killer when maxed out on the master volume. Even the TT is still pretty damn loud though. So I have been thinking of getting an Air brake for a while. Anyway, here is the bad news. The dealer told my wife it would take a month to come in....does that seem right? Anyway I hope it comes sooner than later!

Not sure about the wait time right now. They are a hot item and may not be in stock everywhere. Not a super complicated thing electronically, but they are hand-wired and built really well. I hope you get it soon, too! You will love it.

I had an Air Brake before the brake lites came out, they are very cool and the bedroom mode works really great. A month isn't that long to wait, get your order in and it will be here before you know it

Well I can't wait. I don't really expect quiet bedroom levels, I just want to shave 5-8 db's off of my best tones.

According to their website, Humbucker music has them in stock.

I know Humbucker has one, but my local shop is a DR Z dealer and I like to buy from them. My wife already paid for it too. Oh well I guess good things are worth the wait.

Well the Air brake showed up. It is quite transparent. But I think that may be because it doesn't attenuate very much. Really can't even notice the first click. That's ok though I prefer to have it not color the tone as much than bring the volume really far down. My Orange does not like it, but the Marshall sounds really good. One thing I did notice. When I crank the amp up all the way, and hit a note that sustains into feedback, there is a weird out of phase sound. It isn't there if I keep everything the same but take the AB out. Anyone know what this sound is?

I have had 2- Brake lites and Now I have finally got an Air Brake, I can tell you this, it takes some getting use to. I thought The same thing when I got mine home , What you must do is trick your ears and your braing to beleive that what your hearing is Normal. I can tell a Big difference in the first click, it's like 3.5 db reduction? every click AFTER is I think 1.5? until you get to Bedroom settings. Your amp is pushing everything so hard but the speakers are not pushing as much air. Give it some time you will find that it works great. ;D

A couple of things about attenuation.
The first is that we all hear it slightly differently. I can hear a 1db change in volume, but many folks can't hear a 3db change in volume. 3db is a LOT - if you double the power of your amp, you increase the sound pressure by 3db. Twice the power should be easy to hear, right? Yet the Airbrake drops the sound pressure by 3db on the first click. Some folks report they can't hear any difference. YMMV!
The second thing is that your ears play tricks on you in other ways. If you start at full volume with the Airbrake set to thru, then start turning down, your brain tells you something is missing. But if you come to your amp fresh, not all fatigued by playing, set the Airbrake to 4 clicks before you power up, then turn on your amp and set it for your good sound, you WILL be able to get your good sound. THEN turn UP using the controls on the Airbrake. It gets better as you go up. Next time you go to play your amp, before you do anything else, turn the Airbrake to maximum attenuation and see if I'm not right.
Keep those two points in mind as you learn your Airbrake. You will be amazed.

Is there much difference in attenuation between the Air Brake and the Brake Lite? Is the Air Brake worth the extra money?

You are definitely correct. Working backwards is great. I find the level before bedroom level still sounds fantastic. Retains all the dynamics. That is what I lose with the orange. Do you think if I run 8 ohms from the amp to the brake, then into the 16 ohm cab it would retain the tone more? I can't get over the way the Marshall sounds great through this thing but the Orange just dies through it. BTW I am using an old 1960 B cab with G12m-65's.

I don't think you could hurt anything by trying that. Might be worth a go.
