Bentop, that would be awesome...........I look forward to your close analysis! Just got back from A Sharp Music Co. I did play that Grosh Tele, but I don't think I had played that one before because I would have remembered it. I thought I'd had a handle on all of them there, but that one got by me for some reason.. OK, here's what I find. Fit and finish are typical Grosh - exceedingly fine detail. Exceptional in every way, especially the fret work - wow. When Tony handed the thing to me, my immediate reaction was that this guitar was a LOT heavier than my Grosh Tele. That was borne out in the acoustic output - not much at all. The body is quite dense on that particular guitar, and the acoustic output reminded me of my old Les Paul Deluxe. Playing it, I have to say I'm PO'd because that one plays better than mine. And that's saying something for me since it has a Maple FB, and I don't usually play Maple fingerboards. Wow, that thing plays well. We plugged her into a Rivera Chubster sitting there and dialed up a nice clean Fendery tone. Yep, she's a Tele all right. It has that Tele CLANG that you expect on the bridge pickup. The neck is clean and clear - not like the neck pickup I originally had on my '67 Tele that was awful and muddy. The Fralin TT on the Grosh sounded great. Owing to the dense body, the guitar seemed to have a bit more sustain than my Tele, but the tone is quite different. I would expect that since my body is very light, and my pickups are Fralin Blues Specials. Isn't it odd that the tone can be quite different, yet both "sound like a Tele" with that trademark CLANGG? So I played it for a good ten minutes there - it really plays well - and put her back on the rack. Not knowing your style, your amp, your tones, etc. it would be hard to know if it would work for you. My only concern would be the weight - not as heavy as a Les Paul by any stretch, but a lot heavier than any of the other Fenders I have around here, or my other two Groshes. Still, that does affect the sound in a very specific way, and that might be to your liking. Whether you want to find out via a long distance purchase will be up to you. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your effort..............that really helped me out! Boy, that weight issue is a tough one. It would be one thing if I could play it firsthand and decide, but, I do like the feel of a lighter tele....... +1 for your effort........mucho appreciated!

I've played that Grosh at A Sharp. damn fine instrument. If I had the bucks, I'd buy it in a second. One thing Grosh does that most others do not do - polishes every fret end. They are SO smooth - to die for! Not sure what pups are in that one - oh, there it is: Lindy Fralin Vintage TT. Nice! You can't go wrong, and it looks even better than in the photos. By the way, here's my Grosh Tele: You just HAD to show us your new Tele, (sigh), again, didn't you? You had to Photoshop it up with the drop shadow and everything, too. (...mutter, mutter...make me sick!) Yer KILLING me, benttop!!

Well this IS a gear forum... AND, when you are learning photography, one thing you MUST learn is how to do post processing. About the least important item of post processing is putting those frames around your images, but those frames seem to make the greatest impact in presentation. So I figured it out and do it now. But don't get me started on Canon cameras, RAW format, CS2, long lenses, IS, etc.... - there's WAY more money in that hobby than even guitar playing! d'OH! I'm walking around with a camera bag with nearly $15K of goodies, and still wanting more. YIKES! That's why I need to focus on Stingrays and Grosh guitars - at least they look pretty.. ;D

If you thought the Tele was heavy, you should have tried the Set Neck!....You should have tried the Set Neck anyway...or did you? I ended up modifying a big thick spongey bass guitar strap to wear with mine just to give the shoulder some relief! Kinda like women and high heels, sometimes you just gotta sacrifice some comfort! Actually, that's a pretty good line, "I'll wear my Grosh Set Neck for 3 sets if you wear your heels!" ;D

I also handled another Grosh that just came in there - a Hollow T with dual humbuckers. Mahogany back and neck, maple top finished in dark translucent blue. The maple is very flamey, and he has a cap and color on the headstock too - dang that is a NICE axe! And because it is hollow, it's light as a feather.

LeftyL... Your the culprit........your dapne blue is the reason I started gassing for that finish! Thats quite an endorsement Bentop....(Steve?) I cannot believe you actually played this guitar? Does it sound amazing even without an amp? I used to be an anderson freak a while back when I got tired of paying top dollar for the whole reissue fender/gibson thing............I had a cobra which replaced my les paul, the drop top I still have and a custom order classic to replace the strat I had at the time............ What I ended up experiencing was that if you want a les paul.......get a les paul............if you want a strat.......get a strat........because the cobra didn't quite do it and much to my dissappointment, the custom order classic sounded kinda lifeless..........flat. Maybe it was me........I know that the anderson guys don't let 'em loose if they are not players............but, I never fell in love with that axe. Crused me cuz I waited 8 months or so for it. Oddly enough, I love my 2 relics way more than that Anderson strat.......they totally have the mojo, great pickups and super nice worn in finishes.......... Anyway............I am kinda worried that the same thing will happen if I get a boutique substite for a tele.................I want the boutique quality, resonance, playability..........but, ultimately I want it because its replacing a fender tele........ Hey wait a minute...you can't blame it on me The Grosh is very cool, but have you thought about a Custom build or a Nash Tele ?? Less money and that will give you enough left over to buy another Z

I initially was going to buy a Hollow T carve top with buckers and one F-hole. They look amazing but Don had just released the Set Neck and I couldn't resist owning #004 Namm exhibit model. Still would love a Hollow T though. Mmmmm lightness! I'm kinda gassing for a Trussart rusty steely deville too. OUCH there's one on ebay right now! So much gear...so little cash.

Mass Street should be getting my Stang Ray in soon. Hopefully this guitar will still be there when I go to pick up my amp. I'm really curious about those pickups. I'm beginning to think two matched pickups on a guitar would be nice. My guitar has a single coil at the bridge and a humbucking at the neck and the difference is a little too dramatic. I like the 6105 frets a lot, I've got them on my Tele and my '51 Epi Triumph. I still owe $1650 on my amp when it comes in so I hope I can resist that guitar!

I've got Fralin P-92s in one of my PRSes, and they are absolutely amazing sounding pickups. I can't believe I'm thinking it's the one that's gonna go when it comes time to "thin the herd"...

Btw, if you're still in the market, check out Fat Sound Guitars of Cary, NC, outside of Raleigh. I don't want to spam here, but if you want their website, just email me privately.
Stu, the owner, is the #1 Grosh dealer in the US for many years running, and his prices are outstanding. He's a great guy, and has a VERY knowledgeable staff. Their customer service is first rate. I've bought two Grosh and several amps and PRS from Fat Sound - they are the first place I look when I'm searching for something. And Stu is the person who turned me onto Dr Z.

Anyone played THIS ONE or one like it.......I am in the market for my first tele...... I have been jonesing for a long time for one...........not sure what route to take.......custom boutique or some kind of fender...........I'd prefer to stay away from the Japanese models.......just my preference. Also, the custom shop stuff is pretty pricey........seems like if you are gonna spend that much money, you might has well get an Anderson or a Grosh...fret work and electronics will be right......right from the case. Anyway, this one has me all gassed up! www.asharpmusicco.com/electrics/electricpages/dgcg/groshvt1566.htmlFYI: Here are some pics of Warmoth stuff I've put together and I'm very happy with the results. Warmoth did the finishes also. Only the necks & bodies are from Warmoth, as I bought the other parts from various sources.
