Happy 2012 all!
Not sure where to post question, will start here as EZG appears to be best suited.
Our keyboard player, Keyermo Lupez, would like to know if there is a Z for keys. Anybody have any experience with keys into EZG or other Z? Does the Z store intend to develop an 'extended range' amp?
cheers, jg

I thought keyboards worked best with a 15 inch speaker... probably wont find many guitar amps with anything but 12s and 10s.
Might be worth some speaker size performance research. Keys have 81 notes and then some, guitars have what...24 on one string, plus 5 more per extra string
=49 notes possible on a 6 string with 24 frets not including false harmonics and bends?

If your talking synth, a tube amp might not be the best choice. But if your yalking Rhodes, and wurlitzer, or even a old clavinet....it would be killer !

Jonny Henderson of Matt Schofields band used his EZG for the Hammond after Matt went back to TR.

I have let the keys player in my band borrow the KT45 for a few gigs. Now if he's stuck I let him use the Ampeg bass combo instead.

I have run my Hammond B3 (NC1) thru many tube amps with great results. Back in the day (besides a Leslie cab) keyboarders loved Marshalls......so yer closest Z analog to a 60's Marshall, would be a Remedy thru Doc's 4 x 10 cab....

I have used the EZG-50 through a 2x12 for keys (Rhodes, ARP Odyssey, Juno-6) and it sounds OK...not ideal.
The problem is not with the EZG. It's that a guitar amp and cab are designed to push midrange and not the full frequency spectrum (generally, speaking). So if your keyboardist lives in the midrange...it might work fine and case closed.
What I ended up doing is going through a bass rig. Ampeg SVT and 4x10 cab. Much, much better for lows and highs, plus plenty mids when you need them. Plus, you could always add a 50 watt guitar amp and cab and get some sick midrange in addition to the full sound of a bass rig.
Your results may vary, but highly recommend a bass setup for keys over a guitar rig.

Thank you all! EZG still not here to experiment so your info lets me off this train of thought. Will explore the bass rig option while waiting. Much appreciated. Cheers, jg

By the way- not trying to shoot down the EZG. It might work perfectly for some keyboardists, particularly if playing mostly in the midrange and not playing extremely loud. Add a 4x10 and it might be a great fit.
With that said, a bass rig is the option I personally prefer when I switch over from playing guitar (Gibson SG -> EZG-50 & 2x12) and play keys (Rhodes or various synths -> Ampeg SVT + 4x10). Good luck!
