I'm not sure if it's the same as the MAZ. I'm sure an email to DrZ would sort that out. I remember seeing that thread about the new pans in the MAZ, got me thinking too. From the way I understood that thread the new pans arent better so to say than the old pans. But that they stopped making those old pans of the same quality, hence the switch.
If you try it be sure to report your findings. I'm pretty happy with the verb as is, but them pans are fairly inexpensive. Might be worth a try?

I noticed where the Doc said the newer pans offered up a deeper sounding reverb than the previous ones. But yes, at ~$16 they would be worth a try.

I ordered one of these tanks and got it today. When I removed the original JAZ reverb tank it was actually an 8AB3A1B. I did the cardboard and tinfoil thing to cover the bottom of the new tank and installed it. The "tail" of the reverb was noticeably shorter with the new tank. Also it hummed very loud so I double checked I had all the plugs in the correct spots and I did. I put the original tank back in and have the new one packed up and ready to be shipped back. My original one has cardboard over the bottom of it and is not that noisy.

The stock verb on my JAZ is perfect.

I also found I prefer the way Z intended it to be. :-)
