My blues/rock group played at a small bar last night. At prior gigs there I've relied on the Z-28 (1x10 with Brake Lite), which always served me well. Last night it was time to give the MAZ 8 a chance. I can only second what Eric (roscoenyc) and Paul (bluzman) have said: this is one fantastic gigging amp. I was extremely happy with the tones, and the rest of the band loved the sound. This was also the first gig in a long time in which I used two guitars, my usual EC Strat and a Les Paul. Both sounded fine, but I gotta say the LP was super toneful through the 8. That confirms what I had felt playing at home. I don't recall exactly what settings I used. If anyone's interested I can check. I did start with the Brake Lite on 2, but it pretty quickly moved to 1 and then zero ;D No complaints from anyone Due to a tight fit I needed to stand pretty close to the amp, which was on the floor. As Eric has mentioned, the slight tilt in the Studio Combo seemed to really enhance how well I could hear myself. I would certainly consider bringing the amp to a larger venue and putting it through the FOH. Some gig pics may be forthcoming but I doubt the amp will be visible. Although it is red and attention must be paid. ;D

Good report Mike! However, I can't imagine needing or using a Brake Lite with this amp, but I guess I need to give it a try. I said the same thing about bigger amps, but now I use them all the time- The slant on the front of this amp thrills me. Right now it's right beside me at my computer desk and the slant helps tremendously. Just that slight slant helps alot. Do/did you guys mic amps at this small bar? I also agree the Les Paul sound great with this amp!....along with P90's. I have not even plugged a Tele or Strat into it....yet-

^^^
We never mic amps or drums at this bar.
My guess is that I won't use the BL at gigs, just for practice at home.
I think someone commented that in Dave Baker's demo the Gibsons sounded "better" than the other guitars through the 8. I was surprised that I reacted similarly. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on Tele and Strat into MAZ 8. And I must try P90s.

I tried P-90's a couple of nights ago. The pickups sounded full and round. My tele sounds thinner, like I can't get enough low end sometime...could be the speaker isn't broken in completely. Only time will tell.

Last night I had a small bar gig in CT in a 4 piece classic rock covers band as the bassist. As we're setting up the guitar play brings in his Marshall 2x12 combo. As he's tuning up 20 minutes before gig time, I mention I have the MAZ 8 in my SUV and asked if he'd like to try it out. That amp was singing the whole gig and he got compliments throughout the night. After the first set I noticed his LP was plugged into the lo input so I told him to switch it... it was pure schweetness! I was turned up pretty loud on bass and I could hear every note he played.

I played mine at home today with everything set as it was for the gig, except no pedals. Boy did it sound good. I think the Blue is broken in. What a marvelous speaker for this amp.

^^^ Lee, I've got Dave Baker's and English John's demo settings in the tone sheet. Good starting places for dialing in the M8. I suggest leaning toward Dave's higher Cut settings (compared with John's) and reduced Treble if you want to use the EQ bypass. I didn't at my gig; stuck with pedals. Bringing a tried-and-true is wise. Also, as I noted I was playing a small place and had the Brake Lite off. It's a sufficiently loud amp, but it's not a loud amp, i.e., not Monza-like. Will await your report, sir!
