Since we have more Z Wrecks out there and we also have the new combo in the equation, I thought I'd bring this back up.
On my first 2 Z Wreck's I used the "Comfort" exclusively for 2 reasons. One, I like the looser, more comfortable "feel" and two, lower voltage on tube's means longer tube life in my mind.
On the combo, I was using the comfort at first, but this combo has a looser feel already and the "speed" setting is sounding good too.
New thoughts?

I like 'em both. But usually use the Comfort setting. It's a tad more wholesome with an extra dash of color.....Now should I wish to play "Highway to Hell,"....flip that switch, baby....

Just a note:
Comfort : More Trainwreck like, lower plate voltage, a touch more bloom, what Kenny wanted
Speed : More Z amp like , higher plate voltage , a bit more percussion and pop in the notes, what Z wanted.
Having both is what Brad Paisley wanted.
Much more expensive power transformer with dual secondary, what Heyboer Transformers wanted.....

I like both! I hear a large difference between the two. And feel a big difference. I haven't had my combo long enough to vote. But I'm sure glad it's there. I've been on speed for the last few days . I like it a lot with my Paul's. Real tight and punchy. I switched to comfort yesterday and noticed right away the difference. Almost like the strings feel real slinky. Really cool and a bit mellower. You know how when a lightning bolt hits real close to home, like right behind your house? When the thunder cracks immediately with the flash and the initial thunder crack is so intense that you jump out of your shoes? That's "speed" to me. The "comfort" setting is like a lightning strike a little further away.....

Can someone expect longer tube life with comfort vs speed? You would think the lower plate voltage would be easier on the tubes???

Comfort Mode for me. It seems a bit warmer and loose. The speed tightens it up no doubt about it. I like the comfort mode but in a live setting I could see myslef using the speed mode as well. But for right now its hard for me to change out of the comfort mode. I guess im just Comfort-able there...

I've played both settings and decide I like the "Comfort" setting the best. Ask me again in a couple months

I like them both. Leaning toward Comfort today as it sounds a little smoother with my LP.

So far, I've mostly used the comfort setting. There's still plenty of snap and spank on hand, but I prefer the feel, and the way the notes bloom when it's on comfort. However, I reserve the right to change my mind at any given moment.

One would never use my name and "precision" in the same sentence. Comfort all the way...

How about "Still using comfort after 5 months"?

I've been flipping back and forth depending on what mood I'm in. I seem to gravitate more towards the comfort setting as it seems a little smoother and has a little bit more color to it. I do like speed as well - it leans a little more towards StangRay tone and feel.

Gigged with the Wreck last night….1st set was on Comfort, 2nd set Speed. Tend to lean just a skosh to Comfort for the same reasons you guys have talked about. But it's a real close call!

Funny thing...
Was at a gig this weekend and the amp sounded and felt different for some reason. Tighter and not as "easy" to play. when I was breaking down at the end of the night I noticed it was on the speed setting.
I guess I like the comfort better.

I've had mine for a while now. It has plenty of bite on "comfort." I haven't been terribly tempted to change to "speed" or to mess around with preamp tubes yet, but everything could change when I start messing around again with recording.

Have experimented quite a bit in both the speed and comfort settings. I prefer the speed setting. Love the fast attack. Has really helped me work on my technique. Speed for me!

DC here! Ha I just bet they were satisfied by that BTW Doc: Thanks gain for help and tips about my blown screen grid resistors on my Route66. After following your advice - my Route66 hums as sweetly as ever. The Weber Bias-Rite still shows wrong values on one channel - guess it took a beating too - lols. As you may have noticed Doc - I'm in Barcelona on vacation - Have paid Ron at Proguitar in Germany for a new Z-Wreck combo. He'll send it to me 2016-08-01 - when me and my better half return to sweden in 2016-08-02. I'll be very disappointed if it is not at least as good as the Route66 - lols Kidding aside looking forward to a bit different flavour soundwise. Cheers: Dixiechicken!

Seems to be an appropriate time to revisit this..... After playing in comfort for the past year I'm back to to speed. More clarity in chord work and more balls with riffs. I've also noticed speed seems to take OD pedals better especially when looking for a volume jump in addition to mid boost thanks to the added headroom.

I know this is an old thread but I am new to my Z Wreck.
I have found I like the comfort setting when using my old 4x12 cab but prefer the speed setting with my 2x12 w Celestion blues.
Maybe the comfort setting sweetens up non alnico speakers?
Just a thought.
