Settings: Some of the horn players before downbeat. Players practicing before the game. At the end of college basketball season, I ordered my KT45 specifically for this large venue. Several months later it showed up. So far I've played one gig where the KT was on stage with me. Other gigs have been with the cab isolated. Well, the chance finally came to put the amp to work for my intended purpose at a preseason scrimmage. The KT did great. Most notable, I had it up significantly louder than I expected. Surprising what 12 horns, drums and a loud bass rig can do to what’s usually a very loud amp. But I experienced other surprises in this "real use" situation. First, I was still blown away by the pure tone. Next, with what is usually a fairly stiff amp, at this higher volume setting the 5V4 tube rectifier provided a significantly spongier feel than I was expecting. In a COOL way! Also, regarding how I had to push the amp more than I expected. At one point, instead of pushing the volume more I decided that maybe an EQ change was in order. So I barely breathed on the treble control… BAM – instant boost in “volume”, what seemed like putting 20 extra watts in the power section. But it didn’t seem harsher or much brighter. Just all around clearer, more present and louder. It was a wild change, that I’ve never experienced on another amp. Throughout the gig I kept being reminded of how special this amp really is. This unique designed “45” watt amp is something else!

Nice! Really nice. Great to hear Katie being used on a big stage where she can breathe.
I'm playing around with the 5v4 at the moment on your recommendation. The amp is just an absolute pleasure to play at every volume level. Clean, clean, clean!

The KT will always be my favorite Z amps. No doubt about it!

Yeah guys. I'm really looking forward to this basketball season. Playing in this band may not seem like most people's dream gig, but you'd be surprise at how fun it is. Here's the run down of what makes it so fun and why I've done it every season for about 6 years now: Starting next week I'll play about 1.5 games per week for the next 4 months. The pay is decent, there's no rehearsals and the band sounds quite good. It's about half local pros and half college music majors. Lot's of fun music to play; tunes by The Beatles, Hendrix, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Metallica, Chicago, Led Zepplin, sport channel themes and other classic tunes and oddities. But most off all - I get to *crank* my favorite gear and simply jam. This gig offers about as much freedom to let loose as anything I've done. And my KT45 is at the center of all the fun...

You'll have to get somebody to do some video. Be great to hear and see you in action and get an idea of the atmosphere.

Sure timford, if nothing else I'll slap my iphone on my music stand one night. Let us play a couple of games though... was a little rusty the other night being the first game of the season; new charts and all.

Hey Aaron, Late to this thread, but just noticed your settings and the Treble volume boost effect. Gotta say, at those settings, I get exactly the same effect on the Z28, also with the Volume at that level (below 9:00) As soon as you bring it above 9:00 by even a fraction, there's big boost in perceived volume. Very cool! I watch this thread because I think of the Katie and the Z28's big sister! I would love to have the need for one ;D Pete

Howdy,
Sounds like a blast, AaronDavis! I'm really intrigued by the mighty KT-45. 16 years ago I had a similar gig doing Basketball games at a local JUCO. I employed a 70s Deluxe reverb and usually my Rickenbacker 330, and it was fun.

Using the KT-45 side of a 6545 is pretty similar. If you have the tone knobs all the way down there volume is pretty tame even with that knob up high. Bring up B or T or both and wham!
Definitely similar to Z-28's operation, Pete.
