After posting Z-28 or Fender Deluxe reissue and getting alot of great support from the Z tribe, I demoed an original Galaxie w/two Z 10's through my LP Custom and was floored! The clean head room with humbuckers was the sound that has been in my head for years but could not find it in an amp this size or wattage until I plugged into a Galaxie!! . My beloved Maz Jr head while ok with buckers cannot match this sound! This amp has got to be Z's best kept secret! I dig the fact that it is the original with the presence control instead of the new style with MV for ch 2. Another cool thing is that it has the badge on it for Z's anniversary. This amp basically sat on the shelf ignored by everyone including myself for 3-4 years. The demo included the Route 66 & Maz jr through a Z best. I must say the Route 66 is incredible as well. Huge, juicy, meaty, liquid, creamy dimensional tones, it was all there in the 66! But the Galaxie was no compromise it featured those qualities in combo package which is what I was looking for. Thanks guys for all your support in my search that started with Z 28 or Fender Deluxe reissue. K80steve

If you can make it to Michigan mini-fest you can try the Galaxie through a 1x12 G12-65 - I think you'll like that also!

The Michigan Mini-Zfest is going to be at my place in Ann Arbor on October 22-23 - just a bunch of guys getting together to play around with my gear. Nothing fancy - just some BEvERages and pizza and a chance to meet other Z guys from Michigan and nearby states I don't expect millions to attend (ok, maybe 10-15 guys) but we should have some fun testing all the gear. Just send me a note if you want to attend and I'll send you directions to my house with all details when it's available. The G12-65 is a 1980's Rock sound - great with high gain amps and intended as a smooth, high powered greenback. Robben Ford is said to use the G12-65s in his cabs.

Given a fair test, the Galaxie is hard to beat for putting a smile on your face.

G12-65 w/Galaxie ... smooth, warm, powerful, full, deep and wide .... not so much bite-y or bark-y as a V30 imho ... based on my play-time (and tinkering time) with Galaxie(s) over the past coupla years .... .... mainly 'bucker guitars, and mebbe a Strat or two and a Tele or three ... .... imho .... the 12-65 is a strong combination with the Galaxie .... and while there are other speaker combinations that work nice too, I like the 12-65 ... really .... I do ;D .... based primarily on channel 1 .... that said, I love it - G12-65 - with channel 2 and once spent an entire night rotating guitars and players thru the Galaxie on channel 2 .... I set-it-up and forgot to mention there was a clean channel available .... ;D ;D ;D cheers always, eh Joel

I have never had a G12-65 but I can say Joel's description sounds like my Galaxie with a pair of Greenbacks in a Z Best cabinet. I have tried it with the V30 in my recently acquired Carmen Ghia combo and I am still meh about that speaker. I have gotten my Gal some Tone Tubbys but they are still in their boxes. Wait, no ... I have a pair of 8" TTs through which my Gal makes a sound I am still working on putting into words. But the big ones are not out yet.

Hi Jan thanks for the vine, I have experienced green backs and found that they really excell with gainy amps. Love them in 4 X 12 cab with the SRZ 65. Tried a green back in Fender Blues Jr and found it to be quite dark for my taste. Z tells me the G12H30 is the "heavy magnet" version of the green back, and that unit is paired with a V30 in the Best. Here is a little trick for the Z Best, take the back off and shove some rags into the ports, I used an old sweat shirt. Put the back on and fire your rig up. What I found was a tight focused sound like that of a 4X 12 sealed cab! i like it Beyond that I noticed you live in suburban Atlanta, my brother lives in Hiram. about 35 miles north west of Atlanta. Anywhere near you? Thanks Steve
