Nice move And another KT45 owner hits the 'most underestimated amp' section of the forum.

Yeah guy's, when I have time I'll do some clips. That's one of the things about the KT45, there's hardly any decent clips. I'd love to help out with that...
This amp *rules*! It's certainly not a home, quiet jam amp, but I knew that. I actually just played a gig with it, but I was using in-ears so I *really* didn't get to hear it. Kinda midrangy and thin through those monitors but I was glad to get to use it anyway. At least crowd heard it.

Is there any three better words than "New....KT45...day"? You're right the SRZ (at least mine) is pretty much all or nothing. Some of them clean up a little better than others with the guitar's volume control but it's Doc's only cascaded gain preamp amp and it shows. It wants to ROCK!!!! The KT sounds very different through different speakers. It loves the Z-Best and Doc's 4X10. What speakers are you using with her?

Funny you should ask what speakers I'm using Phil; I literally just buttoned up the cab after taking the Vintage 30 out and replacing it with my current favorite speaker - a Jensen Neo 12100. It's got a fairly uncolored response. I just left the other stock speaker in for now, the G12H. Gonna jam a bit now see how these speakers work together.
I *love* this amp guys! But after gigging with it and playing with it quite a bit Friday and Saturday - last night I plugged back into my Z28. What a cool couple of Z's I have. Since the KT45 is such a beast, the Z28 will still get most of the use.

Additional info here guys:
Just to affirm all that have informed us/warned us that this is a *loud* amp. To be used at "bedroom" volume i.e. a level where my kids can sleep, you have to turn the volume almost off. So at this setting the amp thins out quite a bit, so I’m obviously better off using my Z28 or TopHat CR for this type of playing. This is a *gigging* amp guys; good thing that’s the purpose I bought it for!
Also, I quickly threw in a 5AR4 tube rectifier to bring the voltage down a bit. Most likely I’ll be able to keep this in, even for my loudest gigs because this amp has so much headroom. With the 5AR4 at about noon on the volume control if you really hit the strings hard, it will clip just a little bit. But even at this setting, there is such a *huge* continuum of dynamic range you can play fairly quiet and then *really* loud based on how hard you hit the strings. BTW, I’ve never played an amp with this much of a range. I believe this is the feature that people refer to when saying this amp can reveal technique deficiencies. If I need to get more headroom for a real loud gig, it’s really cool that I can just pop in the socketed SS rectifier.
This brings me to the fact that – more than likely I’ll be getting a Brake Lite SA or Air Brake so I can get some breakup at a reasonable volume. BUT, believe it or not, breakup isn’t my top priority when buying an amp. A great clean tone is; and the KT45 delivers.

Congrats!
I love the breakup as well as the cleans from the KT45. There once was a KT-45 David Grissom clip attached to the older Z site version. That sounded good.
KT-45 - best amp I've ever heard.

Yeah... where the heck is this Dave Grissom clip I've read about so many times? Did Dr. Z have to take it down cause DG endorses other amps? I'd love to hear it.

Yer wish is my command good sir. web.archive.org/web/20060209014052/http://soundchunks.com/drzamps/grissomkt45a.mp3In all fairness though I've heard David sound exactly like this on every amp from a Matchless to a Paul Reed Smith. That tone is in his head and he knows how to translate it to any gear he's playing.

You know, there really should be *way* more talk about this amp! I would put this amp up against any 40 - 50 watt high headroom amp.
One thing I noted last night, these tubes put off a little more heat than I'm used to in my other Class AB amps. Is there a reason for this? Or is this typical and I haven't noticed it before.
Also, not that it matters but I'm assuming there's a negative feedback loop in this circuit to remain as clean as it does. Is that a fact?

Have done some gigs with my KT45 where the cab was isolated, where volume wasn't an issue. Took it to a band rehearsal last night, just cause I wanted to hear it in a band setting where nothing was between me and the cab.
Result: This is such a loud amp I could barely get the volume *on* before it was too loud. I think I rode right at 8 oclock on the volume control. In this setting this amp is so idled it doesn't do it justice. No real speaker interaction either. Conclusion: This amp is really only for louder gigs IMO. Again, that's why I bought it but it reminds me why a great lower wattage 1x12 combo works so well in *most* band situations.
Z28 baby!
