Hey guys, By chance, today I decided to plug into a galaxie head at my local Z dealer and I fell in love. I originally pluged an american standard telecaster into it and I was blown away. When I got home I tried it with my Gibson Les Paul R9 and it wasn't as nice.....but I was able to dial in some real nice Social Distortion type tones on chanell 2. This is my second Dr. Z amp as I had previously owned a Remedy and it just didnt work for me. I think once I get the right cab and speakers I will have found "that sound" Iv'e been looking for. Im thinking a Z-Best with a Scumback M75 and H75. I also have a hellatone 30 (celestian heritage 30) I wan't to try and pair with the Scumback M75, as I do not own a H75 at this time. Any thoughts ?

Hey, congrats on the amp.
I'm running mine into a Z 4x10 cab currently. Works fine for me, but I've not tried a lot of other speakers. There are some folks here with a lot of Gal time. I'm sure they'll speak up with some good ideas.

Congratulations on your Galaxie. My Galaxie liked my Strat and SG with Gibson humbuckers. I liked 10's with the Gal but think it really comes down to what sound you like to hear and play. For instance, my all time favorite spk and cab with all of my amps (Z's and fenders and voxes) has been this oversized partially open back 1x12 with a Weber 50w alnico blue dog. It sounded good with the Galaxie but 10's are my top pick. I had a 2x10 Z combo cab that sounded excellent with the Galaxie but so far my fav is the Dr Z 4x10 cab. More cab than I prefer to lug around so I sold it to a Z member. I miss that cab but not the load in/out. I'm 53 years old, man! I traded my 2x10 combo cab for a Z 1x12 Celestion Gold loaded combo cab and still preferred the Z 2x10s. The Z 10's are efficient speakers so the airbrake was a necessity 80% of the time. My sound preference is a southern rock/blues/country type of sound.

Congrats on the new Galaxie ... to paraphrase/quote T-rock .... Chet to Chains is achievable Have owned both a 112 Galaxie combo with G12-65 ... and currently have a Galaxie head w/master vol mod that is run thru an older style Z 210 cab and/or older Z 112 cab with V30. And, have had limited time with a Galaxie thru Zbest loaded with V30 and H30. Lotsa different sound sensations available. With my ES-339, I tend to stay on channel 1 thru the 210 cab and sometimes hook-up the 112 as well. All those complicated adult/jazz chords that involve 7ths, 9ths, augmentations, dementations, etc .... breathe very nicely imho ... With my SC-245 I tend to alternate between the two channels and run thru both the 210 and 112 cabs. I tend towards more of a 60s/70s clean-ish into overdrive tones .... more in the Clapton, Walsh, Miller kinda tones (if that combination makes sense) .... mainly 'cause the 245 I got tends to be a lil more bright and spanky for a dual-bucker guitar than would be expected With a Stratocaster, I was happy running thru the 210 with minimal effects on the clean side. Same with Telecasters. Have also had some fun with ES-335, various Gibson SGs, a coupla Les Pauls, and a few PRS .... but one of the surprises was running my EBMM Super Sport thru the Gal' ..... those hotter Dimarzio's like to push thru on both channels I generally run the volumes @ 11:00 and the Treb and Bass @ 12:00 .... tho' sumetimes I'll push the tone controls over to the 2:30 to 3:00 range ... and 99.9% of the time on pentode setting. ..... and I tend to work the guitar's volume control just as part of how I play and make my sounds Remember, Galaxie is an amp that loves to be run and pushed .... don't be afraid to crank it up and hear it roar ;D Not really answering your question about the Hellatone and Scumback speakers .... but just some thoughts cheers always, Joel
