So I recently acquired an EZG 50 and geez what a clean tone, it's exactly what I have been wanting and the reverb is gorgeous. This amp obviously takes pedals well, my fuzz factory sounds really rad, but the overdrives that I currently have don't seem to take this amp to it's full potential.
I was previously playing on a Vox AC30 and using a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 MOSFET for my dirty sounds. I was rather happy with the way the Fulldrive sounded through the Vox, but I wasn't a fan of the Vox clean and so I left the overdrive on most of the time..... hence getting the EZG. So now I have a clean tone that is to die for but the overdrive isn't the same, it's not bad at all, just not as good as I know it can be. I have been using my Tubescreamer again and it sounds much better through the EZG than it ever did on the Vox.
So long story short, what overdrives are you guys using with the EZG? I'm interested in trying new things. As for guitars, I play an American standard tele as my main guitar and sometimes a Les Paul or a Rickenbacker. Suggestions??

have you tried the Fulltone with the EZG? I've had good luck with all of my overdrive pedals - Paisley Drive, BB, 1/2 Gainer, Sparkle Drive (The sparke drive is better with my Maz). I don't think you can go wrong.

Yes I have tried the Fulltone but I don't like it quite as much as I did with the Vox.

For the past few months I've been using a Lovepedal Amp Eleven with my EZG. This is all I use and it sounds great from a little grit to full on. With it full on with the boost also engaged and my tele I get awesome Free and Zep tones but I mainly use it very slight to get a nice country tone. The Amp Eleven is definately one of my faves.

Hi all, I also own an EZG 50 and I've been looking for a good overdrive pedal to go with it... I've looked at the G2D Cream Tone, the LovePedal Eternity Fuse as well as the Wampler Ecstasy and Black '65 overdrive pedals... maybe someone has some experience with these pedals and/or these could also be some new suggestions for EZG 50 owners,... The pedals sound great on the review clips on the web,...but I haven't heard them played through an EZG 50 yet...?! Very interesting thread...let's keep searching...? Peace, Alexis.

So far my favorite drive pedal with my EZG-50 is a Keeley modded Sparkle Drive. Very transparent, full bottom and the tone control is beautiful. It sounds great from just a little grit to full on lead tones. I recently got an OCD v4 and it sounds great on it's own but when I compare it to the Sparkle Drive it comes up a little short. I haven't spent a lot of time with the OCD so I may find the sweet spot. I also have an SD Tweak Fuzz that sounds pretty good with it as well. Really I don't have a pedal that sounds bad with it.

I will say that my Fuzz Factory has never sounded better on any amp, really love the low end this amp gives the fuzz tones.

I’ve been using a J-Drive MK3 from Diamond Pedals. It features a clean boost which I like because it takes the single channel amp and basically gives you 4 channels. It seems to agree with my Rickenbackers (360, Dakota and mandolin), I also use it with a Gretsch 6120 and 70’s SG set up for slide.
I’ve had the EZG for almost 2 months now. I’m running the 4x10 cab.
I bought it to replace my Evil Twin which I like good enough but it was way heavy. The EZG seemed like the right choice. I could split the weight with the head and cab and still have all the headroom of the twin.
I rather like the single channel thing of the EZG, but the J-Drive is versatile. I like the way it sounds – To each his own.
Cheers. PJ

Have a Kalamazoo with the amp and it is good and if you want to add another OD later you can use it a a Klon style clean boost.

This topic has been discussed a little bit but the AC 30 with the Fulltone vs the EZG 50 and Fulltone is interesting. I'm not surpised that the Full Drive isn't working, but you might considering tweaking it some more before giving up. If that doesn't work;
JHS - Angry Charlie or Charlie Brown (I love these!) JHS - Morning Glory Fulltone- OCD Lovepedal- Kalamazoo
All of these work for me, although only the JHS are on my board.

I love the Cochran Tim pedal with my EZG50. It's a perfect match and seems to push the gain without coloring tone at all.

I've been using a Lovepedal Eternity into a COT50 and really like the tones I'm getting.

two great pedals I use are the Barber Electronics LTD SR and Barber's Dual Unlimited Drive .The EQ's on these pedals really allows the amp to shine through......very open and transparent.

All my OD pedals work well. I just love the Menatone TBIAC and my Xotic RC set to push the front end hard is great.
Suhr Riot is exceptional for HM dirt.

I have two drive pedals I use. First in the chain is my Jetter gs3 dual drive pedal. The first in line is a mild od, second is all the drive you could ever want and it's a cascading design gain pedal. The second is a Timmy. Soooo sweet through the Z.

I've tired a bunch with my EZG:
Durham Mucho Boosto Maxon OD 820 Wampler Tweed 57 Wampler Paisley Drive Ibanez TS808 Timmy
I like how the EZG sounds clean, the scooped mids. But in a live setting, if I use a transparent overdrive with it, it tends to sound thin and get lost in the mix. I use the Maxon OD 820 because it adds just the right amount of mids and retains the bottom end real well. I then use the Timmy as a dirty boost on top for leads.

I recently traded my stangray for an ezg 50 because I wanted a different kind of clean tone. Now with the ray I used to use an Exotic AC booster and it was a great combination along with my Ron Kirn tele. For some reason I just don't like the AC booster with the EZG 50, it has a boxy and nasaly quality to it now. So I went and got a Wampler Paisley Drive since I've been fiending for one anyway and I was in a gear buying mood already. I gotta say the EZG 50 with the paisley drive is amazing. Smooth, musical, and very versatile. The best part is that the paisley doesn't seem to overshadow the tone coming from the ezg 50 at all.

I've tried the Lovepedal Eternity and the Lovepedal Plexi with the EZG. Not bad but not what I was looking for. For grins I pulled out an old MI Audio Blues Boy. I adjusted the midrange pot (inside) to give it a slight midrange hump, boosted the bass and I had my crunch rhythm pedal. Good for blues solos also. I then bought a Mesa Boogie Flux Drive for a second stage of gain. I rolled the bottom in to about 4'oclock and the treble at 10-11 o'clock. Bingo my tele came alive. The sound is very fat but cuts. I am however, still looking for other pedals. I'm particularly interested in the Wampler overdrives.

Depends a lot on the guitar, but as a general thing right now I'm loving the Wampler Velvet Fuzz (high gain, scooped and compressed), the Jetter GS 124 (medium gain, more mid presence) and the Jetter Train Drive with the EZG (high gain, mid presence). The Wampler Clarksdale is great with a Strat for semi-clean SRV-ish tones, too. Hard to go wrong, really--the EZG loves pedals.

considering the EZG is supposedly black face voiced, wouldnt a tube screamer like an 808 be the ideal OD for this amp?

Really depends what you're after. But yeah, a TS type pedal with a Strat is pretty great through the EZG. Crank the volume, turn down the gain!

Couldn't agree more although I usually just play mine with no pedals but I recently used the EHX east river TS type pedal with my strat and just sounded so right
