I currently have a Paisley drive, but I'm having trouble finding myself in this pedal. I'm considering a BB Preamp, but I'm curious if anyone has both. I'd like to get an idea of which you value more.
Again, the Paisley is a nice pedal. I am just not sure it is for me.

JD...I will kindly ship you one of my BB's(throw in a Cmatmods compressor too) for your Paisley...lol. I like the BB quite a bit but have been gassing for the Paisley for some time now. It's (Paisley) likely a little stronger in the mid range, has perhaps a little more versatility than the BB...given the mid and presence switches. BB will offer you a little more compressed tone...it's a sweet pedal no question. Fairly transparent, can get a little grainy sounding if the gain is cranked. I run one for lower gain, pushing the other which is set for higher gain.

How's the low end? I use a Maz 38, and the one thing I do really like about the paisley is it wil certainly make the lows boom, especially with a strat. Is the BB closer to "drive" or closer to a "fuzz" type of sound? In other words, more like a tubescreamer or more like a Catalyst?

The BB is all OD in my opinion....lots of low end for sure...having the bass and treble knobs really help dial in some nice tones

Depending on how much OD you want, the AC has more bottom end/ lower mid than the BB - the BB can be a bright pedal. Sorry I can't comment on the Paisley personal experience, but it sounds more fuzzy/buzzy/smoother to my ears than the BB. The BB has a more raw drive to it, and is very transparent.
Seems to me, if you want to emulate the great Brad, then the Paisley drive is what you need - I'm more a rock/blues/soul/funk guy, and the BB works for me ;D

Great vids, guys--the Paisley sounds a lot like the Zen with maybe a smidge more transparency. I actually think the Paisley shades the Zen a bit--great sounding pedal. I think of the BB as the world's most musical distortion pedal: it's very smooth, with a great EQ section and a uniquely sweet-sounding kind of hair. It's not actually an ideal pedal for the kind of stuff my band is doing right now, which tends toward the Johnny Winter end of raunchy, but boy does it sound great with a Strat and a MAZ Jr. I'll never let go of either the Zen or the BB, but I may have to get a Paisley to go with them.

Great vids guys, and great playing. You're not making this any easier I'm going to haul the Maz 38 down to my local guitar shop and see if I can play a BB through it so I can hear it with my playing. I can tell you I've played with the Paisley Drive a ton, and I can't get the sound that drzplayer gets on the pedal no matter what settings or amp I use. You've got mad skills, bro! Mark, if I end up liking the BB more than the Paisley drive I may just take you up on your offer! JD

^^^ The fact hat Jason (drzplayer) is playing through a Z Wreck just might have something to do with it, eh? ;D Good luck with your search! Let us know what you decide. Cheers Pete ;D

Everyone, despite having the same pedals is going to have a little different tone. What is it you are trying to get out of your Paisley? What style of music are you playing?

I have both and they are both great. I'm not sure that a BB will give you that "a-ha" moment if you are not happy with the Paisley. I bought a Paisley after using a BB for a couple of years and it is a great pedal - but I personally find that they can sound almost identical in my rig, depending on how you tweak them. I have settled on the BB for higher gain/more compressed sounds, and the Paisley for a little grit and overdrive.

I hope to add a Paisley sometime this year...we'll see...but it's interesting that you can make em sound similar...good to know!

I was going through some older threads and came across this one again.... Now that I have the Paisley Drive on my board as well as the BB, I can tell you they are two different animals. The BB to my ears has a lot less in the mid range and is so sweetly compressed just a little...the Paisley on the other hand has a sweet mid range that makes you just love the thing. I am a fella who used to DESPISE any OD pedal that was all mids...well let me tell ya, there's plenty of mid range in the pedal (yes you can remove it with the mid contour switch) and ironically enough I want the mid range to be full tilt! That's where is sounds best. Tonally you may be able to dial some similar sounds with these two pedals but in my honest opinion they are two totally opposite pedals that can meet in the middle when paired on a board to cover a variety of dirty sounds from slight hair to all out balls! Both pedals can do it, both will sound different and both do what they do really really well. I am rambling now...sorry, I have a hard time putting thoughts into words.

I bring to life this post again, I'm wondering about these two pedals. Has the BB more gain than the paisley? Thanks

it's got a little more gain than the Paisley yes, but not much...they can sound similar or way different in my opinion. I set mine up running the Paisley first, then into the BB pre...no real reason other than I love having both pedals on at the same time! It's cool...the BB loves to be pushed. I did do a video a while back, it's not all that great but it will give you an idea
One thing that matters most is your amp...I get great results with both these pedals using my teles into the board into a Maz Jr. I went to a friend's place and tried his amp...he's got a HK Switchblade...totally different settings were required...it was interesting to say the least.
