I've been seriously considering an RxJr and the prices lately make it rather enticing.

I ended up sniping that Rxjr...
Sorry, 1juicy1...
I'm truly excited about winning the amp! I'm already super-anxious to get it and try it out.
I've got a Mazjr. and a Monza on the Z front, and I'll prolly have to let something go to satisfy the "one in, one out bridal policy." I've got a Marshall haze head that never sees play time since I got the Z's, so it will surely hit the block...
Anyway, I just lurk on boards mostly; I'm not much of a poster.
Any tips on sounds and settings?
I like my Maz with a brakelite and the master at 12 and volume at 3 cookin' prety good...
The Monza gets there and way past with ease, but it seems a little noisier with "faint" background hiss...that's mainly with p90LP at church with dimmer switches they insist on being halfway up! (I use the Monza for the rockin' youth services!) Also use a R0 to combat the hiss of p90's at our church.
I was wanting a combo, (my others are heads) and thought about buying a Maz combo. I really wanted to try the Rxjr, and this one just happened on my radar the other day.
Thanks in advance, Chris...

well i have about half that kind of money,, i recently fell into a bid on a minty 67 fender bandmaster head in a j d newell 2/10 combo cab with aged grillcloth with 2 jensen reissue p10qs for 610$, the other guy bid 600.1 and i had bid a bit more... i didnt think i would get it, but 3 minutes left and it was mine, sure is a nice sounding vintage amp, but i would not have paid 750 for it the way the market is..

No problem jd400, I'm glad another Z brother got it! I play my Maz for worship leading for youth and adults also at my church! I've been thinking about the RX Jr because I'd like a lil more gain out of my Maz. I always have to overdrive the preamp with a pedal to get the tone I want which I guess isn't that big of deal. I had a Monza for awhile but it just didn't have quite the tonal complexity that the Maz had. I was thinking the Rx might split the difference between the two. Send me a PM if you get time with your evaluation of it compared to the Maz and Monza. Sounds like we are playing similar live applications. If you don't bond with it,I wouldn't mind first crack at it! Ha Ha!

Gentlemen, I just traded my recently acquired Mazerati V2 Head for a brand new condition 2008 anniversary edition RXJR Head. I had wanted the RXJR for some time but got sucked into the Mazerati's simplicity and somewhat sought after image. Anyway, I put the Rati up for sale or trade and got a great deal on the trade. he shipped my the amp today and I should have it by Friday. I will play the amp a bit over the weekend and if I am not immediately in love with the amp I will let you know as well. I know within 5 minutes if I love an amp because a great amp sounds great on all or most settings. I recently ordered a Vintage Sound VS112 (Updated blackface Deluxe reverb) with a higher gain channel built in channel 1. I know I will love this amp as I have other VS amps....so, I would be willing to let the RXJR go for somewhere in your price range and it is virtually unplayed in new condition. I will keep you up to date if you are interested. I would also have a brand new (not broken in DZ 2x12 cab with a Blue and an H30 in red with black grill cloth tan face cream piping and a silver Z...same look paisley had on the DR Z DVD....beautiful cab. that is only if I don't love the RXJR. I bought this cab a month ago or so in preparation for the receipt of the RXJR. Brent at Z said this was the ultimate cab for the RXJR. i started breaking in the speakers with the home stereo a few days ago hoping to get the RXJR this week. The cab was $968 with the Blue upcharge and tan face upcharge. I would let the cab go for $800 shipped and the RXJR head go for $1200 shipped...the combo for $1900. I'll let you know this weekend.

Well, the Rxjr arrived the other evening! I was leaving for wed night church, and UPS pulled up. I took it with me and played it that night for our youth.
It sounded really good. I was just straight in with no pedals, no airbrake...just a Les Paul and the Rx...
Had the master at about 10oclock and the front volume/gain on number 8 or 3oclock! It is a little dirtier than the Maz, but it's cleaner than a Monza. I really like the overdose switch! With it off, I can roll back the guitar and get clean enough to suit me...
Now the bad...
The amp is pristine shape...mint...i mean looks and smells brand new. It was shipped in what looked to be the original shipping box it came to the previous owner in. It had gray plastic covered foam shrunk-fit to the top and bottom of the amp. It was packed very well.
It sounded great on Wed. night. I tried it again Thurs. morning. Still sounded great just using the master. I thought I'd use my brakelight and cook the power section a little to see if it sounded even better. I thought it did sound more saturated, but I could live without using a attenuator most of the time...
Then I took the brakelight off and just cranked it...master at noon and past to see just how loud and useable it is! Still sounded great for 5-10 minutes. After that, the gain faded quickly, and the volume faded as well...
This volume fade took maybe 10-15 seconds. Then there was no sound at all. The seller included extra tubes, so I thought I'd try swapping a few tubes to try to remedy this.
I first tried v1 which is a 12ax7. The new jj ecc83 that came with it made no difference. Then I tried a sovtek 12ax7 in v1...I've got sound! Then went back to the jj ecc83 that came in v1, and I've still got sound...good sound!
I changed all the other tubes one at a time, then the power tubes together. I played it in between with no problems after any other changes with the original tubes or the new ones.
All of this playing while tube swapping was with master at 9oclock...so not "cranked"...
Played it a little thurs. evening with no problems...master still at 9oclock...
Played yesterday morning and cranked it again...problem presented itself again. The volume faded out in the 10-15 seconds. I immediately powered down and changed the power tubes. Still nothing...
Then I thought I'd change the ef86. It came with one I cant really read the name of. The replacement ef86 is a mullard. Changed it, and I bumped the v1 ecc83 aluminum cover just a little when changing the ef86...Ive got sound with the mullard...
Cranked it right after that. In 5 minutes or so, the volume fade happens again. I tried every 12ax7 variant I've got in v1. The sovtek 12ax7lps I've got didn't produce sound at first, but a few different groovetubes I got from GC for spares worked. Then I put the sovtek in it again, and it worked...Went back to the jj ecc83 that came in it...it worked.
Played it yesterday afternoon for 20-30 minutes with no troubles.
I played this morning at respectable levels, and I cranked it once the bridal unit left the house!
Volume fade AGAIN! I'm guessing that loud volume/vibration is the root/cause.
With the amp faded out but still on and no standby engaged, I reached behind GENTLY and BARELY wiggled the ef86 with a doubled over polish cloth...still nothing
I then GENTLY and BARELY wiggled or nudged the v1 aluminum cover/keeper for the v1 jj ecc83...sound faded back up! It probably took less time to fade back up than it has been to fade down.
I did talk to an amp tech on the phone yesterday before I had it come back with me touching the v1 cover. He thought I probably had a short or connection problem that was intermittent. I was already wondering if the v1 socket was the general area of trouble, and this morning is starting to confirm it.
Any thoughts or remedies?
I'm going to try it again later today and see if it happens again and if "nudging" the v1 cover (I'd assume the tube moves in the socket as well) brings volume back again. If this is the case, then I'm guessing that tube socket or connection to it has a short or problem.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, this is only the second amp problem I've had. The first was a hot rod deluxe, and it took the tech months to get to it and fix it. He did good work and was priced right, but he was/is covered up...
Thanks in advance.
