It´s been 6 months since i bought my ezg50. i can´t be happier!!!
When i first bought it, i was using mainly 1x12 cabs... I tried different speakers. I was happy but i wasn´t amazed. i knew something was missing... I tried celestion 1265, eminence cannabis rex, legend gb128, and a few others...
I was always feeling that the treble response was slightly sharp and it was very difficult to manage it. bass response was kind the same.. it could get out of control. I was finding it very hard to find a balanced tone. And a single speaker can sound a bit too beamy and directional and stressed...
some time ago i just gave it a thought and got my self a custom 2x12 cabinet. It´s made of pine. By reading i came across someone suggesting a g12h30 (mine is the english version) and a heritage 1265...
Well i gave it a try and it´s out of this world!!!! i had just finished playing a loud and slamming session and it holds up so well, and so sweetly at the same time!!!! it responds amazingly well to all my dynamics and nuances. It´s very dimensional and it can be punchy at the same time.... i am absolutely thrilled and i want it to share my experience here...
I always felt the same with 1x12´s if you feed them with higher wattage amps, u don´t get what you need... It can be a hassle to carry such a big cab, but it´s worth the effort for such a rewarding tone!!!
Another thing that i experienced with the 2x12 is that i am finding the best response when the post its dimed. I am setting the pre between 9 and 11 o clock and i find a very, very sweet spot there. No need to get the extra fatness by cranking up the pre and turning down the post to compensate. I couldn´t do so to my liking when i was doing it the 1x12 cab.
I feel the attack and feel of the amp is so nice when using those settings... it´s not stiff but is very articulate and very dynamic.
To anyone using a 2x12 cab, i recommend that celestion pairing!
cheers!
