My next amp purchase will be a 1-12 combo with trem and reverb. As a big Dr.Z fan, the JAZ is an obvious candidate. But having a MAZ and REM, I'm a bit concerned about a couple things. First, no low input. I use LesPauls and always use the low input on my MAZ. Does the 4 6V6 power amp offer enough extra head room where this becomes a non factor? Second, no cut. If anyone has a JAZ and has/had a MAZ, where would you say the cut knob on the MAZ would be set to approximate the brightness of the JAZ? Third, is there a footswitch to turn off the trem or reverb? The only picture I found is on Z's site, it shows an effects loop, that I dont need, and no footswitch hole for trem/verb that I would absolutely want. My next amp purschase is not meant to compete with or replace my MAZ, or Rem, but rather compliment it and offer me different tones. I'm looking most for a big clean sound, Fenderish, but more tweed than blackface I guess. Does the JAZ fit that description? Wish there were more sound clips out there with a LP or PRS. Any hands on experience is greatly apprecieated .

Hi Nicholas - it's great to see you are considering the JAZ as your next Z... I can't answer all of your questions, but the amp comes with a hard-wired foot-switch for the reverb/tremolo... Works great, and the tremolo and reverb are fantastic... I've tried a MAZ Jr. & Sr. (both 1x12 combos w/reverb) - And I can get the JAZ to sound a lot like the Sr. with turning up the treble... But the 6v6 tubes have a thicker/fuller sound in general... I think getting the Maz Sr. to sound like the JAZ would be a bit more of a stretch... I've been trying to get that chewy tweed sound from mine, but I think I'm not using the right combination of speakers yet... I've got a pair of 4x12's with V30's over G12H30's that sound great - but I think "Greenbacks" would get me closer... Maybe a Gold & G12H30 combination... I've been able to get some great Fender like tones with the JAZ... The MAZ Sr. seemed to lean a little more to the RAY side of things (4xEL84's) with a bit more chime... Someone here that performs with their JAZ (bluzman? Jason?) might be able to help you out more with the questions you have that are outside of my limited experience... cheers/tom **edit: I've read here somewhere that the Remedy, with it's dual volume set-up and plexi circuit - is enough of a different amp from the JAZ that they could make a fine pairing** LATER!

Thanks TBird.
The hard wired footswitch info was HUGE! I thought the reverb would be like on my MAZ, no footswitch. I dont use tons of verb, so it's not a huge deal, but trem is a different matter. When I want it on, I want it obvious. I would need an off switch for that.
Still curious about the "cut relationship", and single input.
I guess my next biggest worry is an amp that's too bright. That is where the cut knob question comes in, and lack of low gain input. I would be going with a 1-12, so stuck to one speaker 50w at least. But I don't find the MAZ overly bright (cut knob) or REM overly bright (high low volume). But if the MAZ had no cut, or REM no low volume..... I might have a really bright amp.
I really wish I could try one out. But no luck here. Gonna have to go by clips, ( cant find any slow blues humbucker clips ) and you fine folks here.
Thanks again pal, your info was very helpful.

I have a Stang Ray head with the cut control and hi/lo inputs, so I hear what you're saying... But I don't find the JAZ to be bright, like the RAY (or MAZ)... And I don't miss the cut knob when playing the Jaz. The treble knob (all of the eq section) works very well with small adjustments making noticeable changes to your tone... In that way, I find the Jaz to be a lot like one of the 2 MAZ amps... If you scroll down here to the JAZ 20/40 - you'll see it's foot switch - www.fatsoundguitars.com/store/amps/dr-z/dr-z-amps.php

I'm on the way out the door...
My footswitch was never hardwired. If all I used was single-coils, for my tastes it would be too bright, but that's me. With humbuckers it's sweet. Master Volume over 3:00 gives great headroom on full power. At Z-Fest when it was introduced two years ago, the 2x10 had a more punchy bass and tighter mids to my ears.
