Unfortunately I am unable to demo either rig and am wondering how much gain is available in the mini versus the amount in the Monza? I understand the monza is 4x the wattage and volume with be drastic, just curious if the gain amounts are similar as the mini at 2 is advertised as giving zz tone and the monza is a billy in the box,.. thoughts from those who have tried or own both?

Well, my initial thoughts on this (both through the same 1x10 Greenback Z cab and with the same two guitars):
IMO the Monza w/ MV makes more gain across the board and can deliver this at lower output volumes than the Mini. I find the Mini brighter with more bite to the crunch zone. The Mini also seems to be friendlier to pedals, but the Monza takes boosters really well.
The textures of the OD differ, too: the Mini is crunchier and more 'vintage' sounding (looser low end, more bite) whereas the Monza gets more saturated, and is smoother.
Hope these thoughts help!

The preamp gain should be very similar. The power tube makes a big difference but the monza has a PI the mini doesn't. That will add some gain in the Mionza. Neither amps is filtered overly much so I don't think either could sound tight but a class a amp will sag more than a push pull that's probably what people thing of as a vintage sound, flabby or not tight. Both are brilliant in there simplicity and they maintained the character of the guitar you are playing.

Hmm I had a mini now the Monza. The mini is plenty loud for drums not in a pa, much louder than people think. But the mini with attenuator is not as good at real low night time levels as the MV it can just get pretty quiet. The Monza will also get a bit louder too, obviously. Strangely the mini always seemed to cut in the mix just as well. At the time I had a 210 dr z cab so the volume and cut could have been due to that as well.
Pedal wise I will agree that I don't like the TC hall of fame or my dd7 quite as much in the Monza as the mini. But they are both ok in the Monza. However both pedals can run sterio with another amp and that is glorious with either amp. I have an Allen chihuahua that way on occasion. Japanese girl or other wah about the same. Ep booster good with both as well. Also you can try running a boost before the verb and delay and another after on the Monza. I use bd before and ep after.
Tone, I don't feel I am that good of a judge (not a pro like these other guys) so I will just say they are a bit similar but the Monza seems like it can get thicker I guess with the drive control. Attack is good on both, but there is a solid state rectifier In the mini so that may have helped it equal the Monza for that. Also my mini had the upgraded tranny put in which kind of smoothed it out.
Oh yea I must roll back my volume with the Monza and my Les Paul. I have a stock Classic and the HB pickups it came with seem pretty high gain with the Monza.
Overall I am happy changing to the Monza. But I am satisfied with a bit more volume and tone versatility and ok sacrificing just a bit of use of reverb and delay.

I can't comment on the comparison but I can say I do keep the level mix, on reverbs or delays, really low when using with the Monza and it works nice with them.

I've owned two Monzas and my son owns a Mini Z. Two different animals. Both sound glorious but the Mini doesn't even come close to the gain or saturation the Monza puts out. Hope this helps, Todd
