Hi. I am new the forum, and a new owner of a Galaxie112 combo. I fell in love with the tone of this amp at the music store, and couldn't resist the purchase. However, after spending a considerable amount of time with the amp, I have come to realize that this amp just won't stay clean with any volume applied. The tube break up happens WAY to early for what I need. Did I just buy the wrong amp for my needs (strong tube cleans), or am I missing something?

Check some of the other Galaxie posts- I know that some people have dealt with this issue and resolved it (at least to some degree).
I imagine that you would want to A) make sure first of all that all your tubes are good B) swap out the preamp 12Ax7 for something with less gain (5751 or 12AY7 perhaps) C) use a speaker with lots of headroom/high efficiency
Again, check the forum for several related threads and don't be afraid of experimentation.
For what it's worth, I tend to use the Galaxie for smaller gigs where I need less overall volume (and consequently less headroom) and I reach for an EZG-50 for much louder cleans. Cheers and welcome!

Yes speaker with lots of headroom helps. I use Jensen Blackbird 100w Alnico speaker. Also turn up the volume and mess with turning down the treble and bass. Work it from their.

+1 for trying out a 5751 in there. Try it in V1 and in V3 (phase inverter). Just try to get one with balanced triode sections if you use it in the phase inverter.
Also, like eveningstar said, use the bass and treble knobs to tame things down. They operate as preamp gain controls as much as they do EQ controls. When you turn one of them up, it adds gain, but just for it's particular frequency range. Hope that helps some.

I put a 12at7 in the phase inverter like the old tweed amps, and it actually cleaned it up a lot. As mentioned, up on the volume knob and down on the tone controls... they are very interactive.
