I really like my SRZ65 LE but I find the noise floor rather high compared to my Remedy. It gets worse (naturally) as I dial in more gain. Even at the lowest gain setting, the Remedy is way quieter. The sound while playing however is wicked save for a lack of bottom end. I find that part a bit curious.
I won't give too much creedence to these issues until I have re-tubed and biased the amp.
For the interim, would any other SRZ owners care to chime in? I did read that another member had a low end issue that was resolved by replacing a faulty power Tube socket (I think thats what it was).
Many thanks in advance!

Well, I just got back from ripping at a friends house, just two guitars playing, no band. I took my SRZ-65 LE, a Z-Best cab, and a single coil copper shielded, star ground strat. We were playing cleaner, bluesy original stuff. I took the SRZ because I recently was about to sell it and wanted to give it another chance. SUPER GLAD nobody bought it. I'm stuck with it. I had fun really trying all different settings. Gain 9am, then never past 2pm Vol 1 pm (when increased the gain the Vol was turned down to keep mixed) Treble off (all the way back) Mid noon, then to all the way up Bass noon, then to all the way up Pres (the fun part of this amp ) noon, then to all the way down and then all the way up! The initial settings were pretty clean sounding with nice chime and bottom end. The more I turned the Pres the louder and fuller the tone became. This amp's treble is something else. If I turned it up it would thin out the tone and clearly added some unpleasant noise. Not crazy noise like white noise, but enough to make me keep the treble off. Also, liked when the Pres was off. It reminded me of softer plexi tones where chord notes are pleasantly blended together. I did have (bought new)#13 Remedy for a short time. Compared to the SRZ the Remedy always had too much highs on single note stuff that made the strings sound thin. I like fat single notes also with bite when I dig. My KT and RT66 have spoiled my ears. Even when I go off with some 80's metal stuff with the gain maxed, I keep the treble low and then max the Pres. Even then noise is no big issue, but I would say there is some compared to the way I like to run it as above. If you haven't yet, try strumming as you play with the treble knob. As you turn it back to almost off you will begin to hear the bottom come in. Hope this is of use. Good luck with the amp!

Good suggestions! I much prefer the sound of bass and middle cranked (or close to it) and the treble and presence around 10-11 o'clock. Noise floor has never really been a problem, but if you have noisier pickups, I could imagine there might be issues.
Hum canceling pickups could be a solution. Also, is the noise floor with the Remedy and a distortion pedal the same as the SRZ straight?
Good luck.

Thanks guys.
I used a strat with an SHR1 Hotrails in it yesterday. Straight into the SRZ with these settings: Pres 75% Bass 100% Mid 40% Treb 5% Volume was around 25-35% and gain was either 50 or 100%.
The louder it got, the more open, articulate etc.
Somehow whatever noise problem I had observed last week was gone yesterday. No explanation. I did spend more time trying to dial in what I was looking for.
Troutstrat, I found the same with my Remedy. Its a great amp too but if you don't take the time to get it set just so, it can be a bit empty OR over the top.
So, I did something nutty BUT it was fun and the sound ended up being INSANE!
SRZ65LE WITH the Remedy via Radial's Twin City ABY.
Holy CRAP!!!!!!!
Remedy was set to bass 0, Mid 50% and treb 25%. Volume 1 at 40% and volume 2 at 30%. SRZ was same as noted above. The sweet barking mids of the SRZ mixed in with the swelling lows and punchy/sparkling mids and jighs was absolutely 3D sonic bliss.
Now, add into the mix, a V4 OCD volume at unity but the gain punched up to 45% run into the Remedy. Again, more bliss.
Now add an xotic BB preamp into the SRZ. Gain at 60% bass at 75% treb at 50% and Volume to parity.
Am I the only lucky one? Has ANYONE else tried this combo?
Man o man. So in the chain (which I have yet to sort out), I have employed a radilal big shot dual effects loop for chorus, delay, OCD and Phaser.
I tell ya, the Clean punch of the SRZ with the Remedy running with the effects is a monster to be reconed with. The VAST array of sounds are just incredible.
Each amp is a gem on its own but together, man.
Pics soon, gotta sort out the order of things first and make it all work seamlessly. I had hoped to use the Remedy for cleans and bluesy stuff, the SRZ for harder rock sounds and leads.
hahahah I'm going nuts with set up possibilities.

I have found that Most noise form any amps Especially Gainy AMPS COME FROM A- Bad Power, 60 cycle hum, B- guitar cords, patch cables, faulty corroded solder joints etc... I retubed my SRZ and It was a Huge noise reduction when I replaced the Preamp tubes as well as the power section. I recently switched to a Matched Set of 6CA7's WOW! and using an Air Brake!! Holy Crap. I fell in love all over Again. Hope your noise issues get better after retubing, if not make sure your chassis is good and tight and all the grounds are good and solid ;D

I haven't tried the Remedy with the SRZ-65, but I love the SRZ-65 with an EZG-50! Congrats on finding a setup you love and on removing the noise (however that worked out?).
Good points Jamie- cables and input jacks are often the noise culprits in any rig. Another reason to simplify your pedal setup, buy good cables and clean your jacks.

Thanks Guys. I have not re-tubed yet but not sure that I need to just now. I came home with the Red Z-Best today. (its the one I had originally ordered for my red maz jr). Anyway, it was bought but never used apparently and its still mint. Check out the pedalboard (optional wah - off board) > Korg Pitch Black > CAE booster for the strats > Radial Twin Cities ABY From the ABY: Line A - Xotic BB preamp > Boss RE-20 > SRZ and Z Best Line B - Radial Looper > Loop one: OCD>Digitech Delay / Loop Two: Danelectro Chorus and MXR Phase 90. From the ABY to the Remedy. Ungodly yet heavenly. s174.photobucket.com/albums/w94/chester_the_jester/Dr%20Z/

Even w/ my gain maxed-out, I don't find my SRZ to have excessive noise w/ my 'bucker equipped guitars. Single coiled guitars a bit noisier, but no more so than w/ any of my other Zs.

The RE-20 doesn't produce any noise for me - besides, that noise that bugged me was guitar straight into the amp. However, I did discover a bad cable on the board and have since replaced it. I'm currently working on building all new cables with canary cable and Neutrik right angle jacks. You can see the ones I have build already in blue on the board.
Guys, this set up is sick!

Well, a retube is still in order.
last night while noodling with a 335 (straight into the amp from the guitar), I realized there was a very light popping noise followed by volume fluctuation. Seemed to happen at lower volumes only. If it's still happening after a re tube I'll have to look at a possible cap job.
Anyone have anything resembling this issue with their SRZ? What was the fix if so?
Also, what would be the indicators of a failing cap in this amp?
