Could one of you please tell me, how the JAZ 20/40 compares with the EZG50 volume wise? Can the EZG50 sound good at lower volume levels, like the JAZ or the Stang Ray can? THANKS / tom

I'm leaving work for home, but I have experience with both. If you want call me...

Not sure when I'll get a chance to post a full reply, but the EZG while sounding great at all volume levels sounded pretty different and responded pretty different at changed levels. The JAZ seems more flexible and able to retain it's feel at low volume as well as high. That's the short answer from my perspective. Others may disagree, but that would just be stupid ;D!

Thanks "bobbyray" - I tried an SRZ65 before I got the JAZ - it was so loud I just couldn't use it. From what I read here, the EZG50 is close to the level of the SRZ65... It sounded fantastic - but I couldn't turn it up a all... Thanks again / tom

EZG has higher clean headroom. However, I have one and I still want a JAZ 20/40. The way it gets clean with hair sounds at all volumes is so useful. The EZG gets some excellent and somewhat similar clean with hair tones, but at much higher volumes.
If the SRZ-65 was too loud for you, I would imagine the EZG might be to loud too. However, the EZG, to my ears, still sounds good at lower volumes. It does "morph" somewhat into a different sounding amp though as you increase the pre and post controls. It seems to go from Twin type sounds to Super Reverb or Bassman sounds as you crank it. But it still sounds like a Z to me.

Thanks "mtlrecords" - I just thought the EZG & JAZ would make a great team... I've also considered the Jaz & Maz Sr NR - but maybe too similar... Seems like I get one, and immediately start gassing for the next. Yikes!

The EZG is a GREAT amp. It's true that it can get loud (and to get "hair" on the notes, it's required) but it still sounds great at lower volumes. It's pretty different tone-wise from the JAZ. The JAZ sounds exactly what you'd expect from an amp sporting the MAZ's front end and Remedy back end, except the reverb sounds different than the MAZ. IMO the JAZ and MAZ Sr (which is a GREAT amp) might be a little too close to justify owning unless you're collecting the whole set.... ;D
The EZG sounds like a Fender with sort of a Hiwatt midrange and the biggest fattest bass response ever. The JAZ is probably more versatile in the end, with the half power switch, trem, and MAZ front end. Still, when you want the ultimate Fender tones the EZG's the best there is, even at relatively lower volumes.
A LOT of it depends on your speaker setup. The EZG through the Z-Best or Z 4X10 is pretty loud. Playing it through one G1265 is a lot quieter, but ultimately not as satisfying as the multiple speaker setups.

Thanks Phil - I'm by no means disappointed with the JAZ, I'm just a dreamer... I'm using the Jaz (as I would the EZG) as a pedal platform. So the clean tones are the most important factor. And how the pedals interact with the amp. And, as Joel said - anything you can tell us helps our curious g.a.s. attacks... cheers

I had some similar questions. I love my Maz Jr, but have been g.a.s.ing, so I bought a Carmen Ghia Head. It's pretty cool, but I miss playing my '68 Super Reverb, then I found a Galaxy Head. I think I like the clean sound, but it's quite loud at a gig for me, and the drive channel is WAY too loud. So I am now looking into the EZG or the Jaz (who knows, maybe others).
Does the Master on the EZG let you get Super Reverb volumes at a low volume? I don't mean bedroom volume, but small dive bar volume.
Does the Jaz get any Fendery tones? It looks like a very versatile amp. How does it compare to the Maz Jr? I know it has the same front end?? Not as smart as I would like to be about amps - how does that translate into idiot terms?

I have no personal EZG experience but yes the JAZ can do Fender like tones very well. I would say it excels at them.

I haven't logged enough time on either MAZ to feel qualified to answer that one... But I agree with Jason, the JAZ gets great Fender tones... My first amp was a Twin Reverb / then a Hot Rod Deluxe and a Blues Jr NOS... The JAZ sounds better at full volume than the TWIN or HRD did... And much better down at the volume level of a Blues Jr. than the BJr... cheers
