Are you Stangray players using any reverb, and if so, are you happy with the reverb unit you're using? Are you placing it in front of the amp or in the effects loop? Will the effects loop take stomp box reverbs? Inquiring minds wanna know, thanks.

I'm using a Holy Grail in front of the amp. I'm fairly pleased with it, but I'll probably upgrade to a Z-verb whenever funds allow. Seems like I'm never finnished throwing money at the rig. I'm guessing I'm not alone on that!

Z-verb in front. Never tried it in the loop as I like it fine where it is and I'm basically too lazy play around with it. The few times I played out live with the Ray, I just used my RV-5 pedal in front rather than take the Z-verb along. In a band setting no one could tell the difference anyway.

I tried the Zverb in the loop and had a signal loss. Infront of the Ray it sounded great.

Thanks for the info, guys, keep 'em comin'. As you probably guessed, I just got a Stangray, I've played it only once - last weekend - and will have a chance to use it again tomorrow. Used it with a p90 Les Paul, sounded really nice running it thru a Jensen Blackbird and a C-Blue. Playing a very small place tomorrow, so I'll use only the Jensen, we'll see if it sounds good all by itself. Ever since hearing the Brad Paisley 'Ray w/reverb demo, I've been thinking about using a reverb unit with a Ray ... wanna make a good decision if I make the plunge and buy a verb.

I use the Boss reverb pedal and pedal board for rock set.

I have an EBS Dynaverb. Used it with the Ray once, into the front end, and it sounded good. I normally just play the Ray straight in, o.r with a bit of slapback from my Maxon AD9Pro. I imagine the Zverb would sound great with it.

Ken, congratulations on picking up a ray. I'm still in love with mine. I've used a few different reverbs in the loop and in front. I was using the holy grail it worked OK in the loop but for gigging I prefer something on a pedal board for ease of use. I've heard there is an impact when using the loop. I'd also say there's an impact when putting it in front of the amp too. I tried boss digital reverb for a while. There were pros and cons between it and holy grail. I'd like to check our the latest holy grail plus. Holy grails are nice units. A friend (monster player with tone to die for) of mine is using the Fuchs Plush reverb pedal in front of his bassman clone. It was very nice. For the last year I've been using the Room Mate. It has a more options to alter the reverb and sounds good but not worth the big bucks (imho) when other pedals are just as convincing in the $100+ range. I keep it on the board for it's chorus function that I'm forced to use to play cover band tunes. I'm not recording and am just a weekend warrior hack. When playing live with a band I use a line 6 DL4 as a faux reverb. If I was recording that would be a different story but for playing live it gets the job done.
And since the ray is new to you. It's a chameleon, for rock or county/southern rock. For rock I like ceramic speakers and alnico for country, blues ect. An inefficient speaker and plugging into the low input allows me to turn up the volume on the amp and be at a small club's volume level. I do use a brakelite on 1 or clicks.

Don't let him fool you, Drew is not a hack.

Thanks Nick. And Ken, Nicks right, the best I've heard is the Z Verb in front...

Congratulations on getting a Stang Ray "kc"... Fantastic amp... When I do use reverb with mine, I'm just using a Hardwire RV-7 out front. I also have an older Digitech "Digiverb" in the loop. It's okay. Just okay though... I'd like to get a "Wet" reverb by Neunaber, but new speakers come first. Also, now that I have a JAZ 20/40, it's got me spoiled. Might have to get a Z-Verb for the RAY... cheers / tom

Thanks again to all.
Ha! I heard Drew hack a bit at ZFest #1, wish I could hack that well!
As a matter of fact, I plugged into the low input - I think it was Robb that suggested that in another thread - and used my Airbrake, and exactly as Robb and Drew wrote, I was able to turn the volume knob up a bit to get the tubes working.
I emailed Brent at the Z shop, asking about verb in the effects loop and he wrote back that there are 'effects loop' pedals available that will turn the series loop into a buffered parallel loop, which could compensate for any possible signal loss in the Rays simple series loop (hope I got that right).
Any more real world verb experience is welcome.

I had to say that because if Drew is a hack, I can't think of a word to describe me. It would be too discouraging.

Not using a 'verb. Never knew the Stang didn't have one, with that killer 3-d tone!

I have a few reverb settings in my TC G-system. Use them all the time, and use them when I bring the Ray along. I plug guitar into the G-system, then run it into the front of the amp. Sounds just fine. MeZa
