i've got an Gold sitting in a box and was going to sell it. Was thinking about putting it in the stangray 2x12 cab.
Any thoughts?

The good doctor chose a Blue and Gold for the Z-Wreck cab so that alone ought to tell you something! I say go for it, I am trying to find someone who would want to trade a gold for a blue so if that gold you have is 16 ohm and you would rather have another blue handy..... LET ME KNOW! Merks

I run the Stangray and Trainwreck Rocket through the Z 212 open back one blue/one gold and the blue I took out of the cabinet went into a empty Z 212 combo cab paired with the Celestion G12H.
Works very well on both amps.

I used that combo for a while (Ghia and Ray) and it was very nice but I eventually swapped the Gold into a 1x12 cab and matched the Blue up with a 50 watt ceramic Blue Dog. Two reasons:
1) I liked the Gold as a stand alone speaker better than the Blue Dog. 2) I thought the ceramic BD filled in the "weaknesses" of the Blue better than the Gold did in a 2x12 cab. I was worried about the sensitivity mismatch but found that they play very well together.
Personal preference, YMMV.

Have a gold/blue combo in the 2X12 that my Stang Ray goes to, love it. It is a magical combination with the Ray.

Keep in mind guys, that if you mix a Blue and a Gold, the cab becomes a 30 watt cab. It IS a fantastic combination. The favorite of Paisley.

Well, if it's replacing a Blue, it might be more accurate to say it's STILL a 30w cab.

Considering the Stang is 40 watts is this a dangerous thing? I can't imagine that it is since it seems like the Alnico gold and/or blue is popular with this amp.
Also, what are the default speakers in the Z 2x12 open back?

I never heard anything so different that works like the ble and gold...as someone already stated, its the z wreck cab. I think it has a lot to do with why the z wreck sounds the way it does....I curious as to what it would sound like hooked up to my maz 38...now thats an idea...lol
cheers!
