Greetings fellow Dr Z fans. I'm a new (used) EZG owner and I love the amp. I've only had the amp for a week or so and very little time to play it. From the few hours I've got in on it I'm in love. I've never had an amp that would go from chords to single notes and sound just as full as this one. I can't wait to spend some more time with it.
I have a couple questions: I see a section on the Dr Z webpage for manuals but no listing for the EZG, did it come with an owners manual?
Pre - post volume? I know it's not the typical master volume set up and that they are interactive. I've played with it some and found some great tones but I would lkike to know how it works. What do they each control? Is there a reccommended starting point? To my ears in the limited time I've had on it, it sounds like having both controls set to the same area gives you the fullest sound. It's hard to tell because every setting sounds great and once I thought I had it figured out I would try something different and get another great tone.
I know it's a clean machine but what setting gives you the most breakup? I have some dirt pedals that I'll use for some drive but is it possible to dial in a little compression/ dirt at usable volumes with just the amp ala Deluxe Reverb? I know there is a big power difference here, just using it as an example.
Thanks, Bob

Bob- congrats on the amp!
The question you have is a good one- ("is it possible to dial in a little compression/dirt at usable volumes...al Deluxe Reverb"?
Well...yes and no. I find that for most of the shows I play (mid-size rooms and venues) that I have to keep the EZG-50 in clean territory or I get too loud. Then the FOH audio guy gets upset and I tend to just say OK, I will turn down. So dirt/od pedals get me where I need to go most of the time with the EZG-50. Let's face it: not nearly as many bands these days get to crank 50 or 100 watt amps anymore.
That said, the EZG-50 responds so well to pedals that I find this to be no problem at all. And on the infrequent occasion that I get to crank the EZG-50, I am greeted with some of the most awesome, inspired and solid "Fender" style rock sounds out there. Less compressed than a Tweed Super or a Deluxe, more defined than a Bassman, but still "raw" and B.F. sounding. No pedals required...(well I gotta have a boost for solos...can't help wanting that).
The other option is pretty straightforward to: buy an Airbrake power attenuator (or similar Bad Cat Leash, Power Soak, etc)
Then you get a Master Volume.
PS- my favorite settings for clean with hair (tiny bit of dirt) is: Pre- 12, Post- 1, T- 11, M- 3, B- 10, verb to taste.
Cheers!

Thanks for the reply. A clean BF style amp with pedals was my goal all along, I was just hoping I could dial in a little natural overdrive at useable levels. I was really looking in the 18-22 watt range but the EZG-50 sounded so good (not to mention the delicious reverb) that I couldn't resist.
If anyone else has any tips or suggestions I'm all ears. I'm finally headed home and will get a chance to spend some time with it. Can't wait.
Regards, Bob
