Just picked up my first Z, a 2x10 Galaxie from a local forumite, and let me say I cannot be happier! I've been eyeballing Zs for a while now, mostly the more Voxy ones like the Stangray and the Maz, but when opportunity arose to try out and grab this Gal, I just couldn't pass it up!
The guys I play with are now mad at me because their amps come nowhere near the sonic beauty of the Galaxie, so now they have to rethink their tone!
Just playing it for a week and I can already tell that it's going to eat up pretty much all my dirt pedals (which is somewhat of a shame cuz I just got my Analogman KoT). It's cleaner than my previous amp (an '81 Music Man RD-100-112), and still is able to growl beautifully when I need it to!
I can't wait to take it into the studio next week and see what she does!
I guess I just wanted to say hi to all of you.
Also, has anyone tried out any SED Winged "C" 6L6s in their Gal? I have a pair laying around and even though I love the stock configuration, I'm intrigued to see the changes.
Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey congratulation vintageroad, I've had mine for a few years. It's been my main amp since I've bought it. (My other amp is a Z 28) I use a ep booster with mine dirt boxes don't sound as good as channel 2 (It ROCKS). The tone controls do a lot, mess with them. Pentode & Triode switch is subtle but effective. Their is a lot to this amp, but you have search it out.
Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving to you

Well, there's a bit O'karma for ya, and a hearty and happy welcome to the forums man. Good to see you here, I'd hoped you'd find your way. The folks 'round here are top notch, which I think you'll find soon enough. Z-Talk: Ya see, music's a funny mistress. I ended up grabbing another MAZ after missing my old one so much, and well... when the change purse starting coughing up dust, it just so happened that a perfect someone happened to be interested, and well... I guess I'm responsible for another convert I look forward to our bands getting together and rocking it again soon my friend. Maybe we'll have to take the trip to the next Zfest and show these guys how PA does it ;D Everyone, give my man Alan a warm and hearty welcome wouldya? (and don't throw rocks at me for just having "one" Z again! hahaha)

Congratulations on hooking up with your gal. It's great amp and as stated earlier those tone controls make a huge difference on the amp's response. I've not tried the winged C output tubes or any different 6l6's for that matter. I'd swapped out preamp tubes and always went back to the original setup. Sorry, I know that doesn't help but still wanted to welcome you to the forum and Galaxie enthusiast club.

thanks for the love guys! yeah I'm super-stoked to be a part of the club! I can honestly say I haven't ever been this excited about a piece of gear before!
My Music Man is a 6L6 powered 1x12 (Weber Silver Bell), so I figure I have some experimenting I could do...but like drew said, I'll probably end up going back to stock!
Whenever I have some audio samples or pics or something, I'll post 'em.
Cheers to all! Alan

Galaxie = great recording amp. Lots of useable clean to mean tones and not insane volume...but loud. Have fun!

Let us know how you liked the Galaxie for recording. I've been using mine in my home studio. Great tone for clean sounds, but I find it is a bit loud for recording when overdriven - and I have my Brake-Lite set to click 4!

Great tone for clean sounds, but I find it is a bit loud for recording when overdriven - and I have my Brake-Lite set to click 4! no Brake-Lite on this track. had volume 1 around 10:30, and the treble & bass at 10 and 2:30, respectively. Used the KOT for OD/Distortion, and stereo'd out to the Music Man set at a similar volume. tonally got some cool stuff for the track, mostly clean with just a bit of grit. we'll see how it turns out once it's mixed, and hopefully I can post a clip.
