Here is my bare minimum board that I use when I am working with my alt-country/rock/pop bands. There would be more on the board, but I am waiting on another Pedal power at the moment. Also a strobostomp and a Diamond Compressor will be on the way soon. Missing off the board right now is a MJM London Fuzz, CI Octavian, Mojovibe, and an Emma Discumbobulator. Phew, I think I need to get a looper too and maybe a Axess BS-2 buffer. Right now though this setup covers a lot. On the board Guitar>>Boss tuner>>Teese Picture Wah>>MJM Blues Devil>>Xotic BB Preamp>>Fulltone Supatrem>>Diamond Memorylane>>Xotic RC Booster.

I used to have one of those SKB pedal boards. Mine used to develop a hum and I would have to wiggle all of the power supply connections to make it stop. I ended up just using a daisy chain cord on the power supply and didn't use the built-in power distribution system. Does yours ever develop that hum?

Hey quinto, how do you like that Direct Drive?

Here's my new homemade "mini" board. It fits in my Anvil Breifcase. The only things I don't have on here is my Wah, and my Rotosphere. I'm gonna add a delay sometime soon, and probably a Sweet Sound Univibe. I'm also looking to swap out the Fulldrive with something but haven't deceided with what yet. Hey travsbluz! I was wondering what you think of the Keeley Fuzz Head. How do you use it? Do you use it for solo sounds? I have the chance to buy a Fuzz Head and I'm still looking for a pedal for solo sounds together with my MAZ Jr. Michael

Hey quinto, how do you like that Direct Drive? I like it quite a bit. I've only had it about a week so far. The thing that's kinda cool is that with the push/pull tone pot down it's almost like a tube screamer, but when you pull it out it has a lot of added harmonics and it can get more gainy. It also has a bass, and presence trim pot as well as a socket mounted op amp. All for $120.00.

+1 on the Direct Drive. Have one in my tour/studio ATA board and just bought another to put in a flight board I'm assembling. quinto pretty much nailed it - a transparent TS-9 w/o the boost (smooth tones w/o the big mid hump) and extra harmonics/gain/mid with the boost. Can really move into the modded Marshall tones (i.e. EVH brown sound stuff).
The pre bass/presence trim pot versions can be had for $60-70 in near mint condition.

Hey Jayson thats a nice looking CLEAN/ UNCLUTTERED board... I've been thinking of making a second smaller/ lighter pedal board than my SKB ps-45 ( that suckers nice but heavy)... I was thinking about getting the one just smaller than the one you've got... the pedaltrain 2... looks like they'd be MUCH lighter... How light/ heavy is your board with the case and everything on it?? With the SMALLER pedaltrain I was thinking I could probably get the gig bag instead of the flight case to make it even lighter.... Thanks, Jason

I may just start using my daisychain cord anyway. Karma for that idea. ;D

Thanks, Jason Hey, bro- Fully loaded, with the ATA case, my board weighed in at 57 lbs when I got to the airport check-in this past weekend. I ended up pulling a few pedals out and sticking them in my suitcase to keep from paying overage. I pulled out the Pedal Power 2, Voume, wah and a couple of Boss pedals and it got down to the mandated maximum of 50 lbs. Mine is the PT Pro. It's big & bulky, but provides the protection I need on flights and in bus bays. The PT Jr with a soft case shouldn't weigh very much at all. I'd think no more than 25 lbs. You can go to the www.pedaltrain.com and it gives you weights of all their models. They are, of course, unloaded weights. Figure on adding 8-10 lbs depeding on how many pedals you have. J

I like the Fuzz Head alot. Although I don't use it like a Fuzz pedal, and honestly I think it's more like a really clear distortion pedal. It retains what I've already got and adds some grind to it. If your setup is bright, this will be bright and vise versa.
I use it a lot for like crunchy rhythm work and use the Klon to boost it a little bit for leads.

aruntang, how do you like the Chicago Iron Octavian? I've been eyeing it for ages, but I never seem to have the $$ or the justifibility of paying that much for a specialty pedal. Maybe if I get the plus model I could use the fuzz side more frequently...

Hi Skydog, I love the Chicago Iron. I tried out a lot of Octavias and Octave pedals like the Ulimate Octave and though I liked a lot of them none really spoke to me until I played the Chicago Iron Octavian. It is the warmest most musical Octavia I have ever played. Sure I don't use it as much as some other pedals of mine but I will never look for another octavia ever again. I think it is nice to have pedals that you don't use much but bring out once in a while like a fine wine to enjoy. I have a quite a few pedals like that that I use pretty much in the Studio or certain Musical situations that call for it.

Just picked up a new "Pedal Train Pro" board with road case a few days ago. Pretty cool board. J Thank GOD you replaced that tired old ankle/shin killer! I know Marc will be pleased! ;D Am building another board for flight dates and was looking at the pedaltrain pro as an option. Your weight/pedal yank story confirmed my concerns. Waiting on a few things to get here to do a layout for size. Maybe I can downsize enough for a PT2. Lots of cool boards out there but trying to keep it sturdy/light/spaceous (enough) makes for an interesting puzzle.

aruntang, I did get an old Roger Mayer Octavia, in the silver spaceship housing, and I could barely get it to work. I did figure out how to get a good sound out of it, but it took too much effort to get there. To my ears the CI box sounds a lot better. Karma for ya! Now you're at 99.

Here's mine. It's a little cluttered because I just put the Tone Press on it, and it's still a little tough doing things with one hand.

Jayson - If I remember correctly, it was you that told me about that pedal years ago. I like it so far. I still can't play a whole lot because of my hand, but I gave it a run for a few minutes the other day. I think once I get everything dialed in it will be pretty good. I like it a whole lot better than the DOD , but I can't complain about something that was free. My next step is to get rid of the Dano pedals and get something better, then my entire rig will be set up with all grown-up pedals. But I have been admiring that snazzy pedal train board..... BTW, thanks for the reccomendation on the Keeley mod for my wah. It made a world of difference. Nick

I think the Dan-Echo is a damn fine pedal, and the Cool Cat is a clone of an old Boss CE-1. Stay put with those. Give me a buzz sometime and let me know how things are going.... J

I got everything at Home Depot, the aluminum channel is in the screw and bolt aisle.. The only thing not at home depot was the carpet stuff, i have had it for awhile, I forgot where i ordered it from though. I used up the last i had to cover the top and bottom of the board, then stuck the aluminum over the edges.
