I was just wondering if anyone else here has tried this outstanding pedal?
I tried a number of Rangemaster-type pedals and it is by far the most 'sorted' sounding (plenty of gain, no noise, NOS germanium transistor) Well worth a look

I have not used the Retroman..I've been wanting to try Analogman's Beano Boost. I have the Cornish TB83.
Which boosters did you compare against?

At various points prior I've had HBE Germania, HBE Germania 44, both of which are decent enough to be fair. Prior to that I'd had a couple of different generic (don't recall the brands) treble boosters, then I built my own using the best parts I could get, then I bought a couple of different ones by one-man-band boutique builders/DIYers - to that point the one I'd built myself sounded best, but the overall boost level wasn't as high as some of the others and the background noise was higher.
So I then ummed and ahhed about either an Analogman or a Retroman and to be honest I don't recall why I went with the Retroman. He was a pleasure to deal with when discussing the options and the lead time was bang on his prediction (and at the time the $-£ exchange rate wasn't as unpleasant as it is now lol )
In the ensuing few years I think it's actually the only permanent fixture on my board (where for example the Klon and Zendrive came and went)

I am waiting on a D*A*M Red Rooster. My son played a Prescription Electronics vintage pedal (Orange Sunshine) that I sold before he played it. I wish I had that pedal back for him.
Is this Beano just a boost or is it a treble booster? My son has an analogman chorus on his board.....great pedals.

Is this Beano just a boost or is it a treble booster? It's a treble booster/Rangemaster with a toggle switch for eq options. Direct from the Beano Boost page: "This pedal has three tone settings from the tone switch- Center is a treble boost, the same as the original Dallas Rangemaster. UP is a fuller-frequency mid range boost (MID setting). Down is a LOW range, also quite a full frequency sound. Optionally we can install a push/pull switch (built into the volume knob) for 2 tone selections (treble and mids) but this option is not as good so we rarely build them." It's a bit more versatile than a rangemaster as you can, with the flip of a switch, brighten things up a bit for darker humbuckers or make things darker for a bright set of singlecoils.

That's the blurb from the Analogman Beano boost page, mine is the Retroman Beano : www.retroman-music.com/beano.htmBut yes it (indeed both) are Treble Boosters. imho listening to a Treble Booster in isolation from the rest of the band can sound harsh and too 'present' but they are perfect for just standing out enough to get over the band without piling on gain or wasting energy in the low end that the bass/keys/drums are already fighting over

That's the blurb from the Analogman Beano boost page Correct. It was my feeble attempt at answering your question as to whether or not the Beano was a boost or a rangemaster I have never had opportunity to use a Retroman, but have heard good things about them.

While the Retroman 'Beano' I'm sure is a fine pedal, I am sold on my aNaLoG.MaN Beano Boost. I just read on the Retroman site: "I started hand-crafting and selling these crazy guys back in 2002 (to clarify, that is a full year before another very similarly named boost pedal came to market)." This may be true, but take a look at the inside and see which is more pure and true to the original. My interest was sparked after I got my NKT275 Beano Boost and started reading about other rangemaster "clones" so I bought a Keeley Java boost to compare. It too sounded fine, but again the Beano Boost had more clarity, less noise, (no noise actually) and more pure to my ears. I should have listened to Analog Mike when he said other people are using tone controls and other adjustments but his is a more original, more simple design....hummm...the same reason we love Dr Z amps. The thing I love about this pedal is how when my guitar volume is on 10, it's full blown, thick, crunchy, singing sustain....roll back the gv to 8 and it's clean and sparkly. So cool... just my $.02

+1 for the AnalogMan Beano. Really great sounding Treble boost.
Here's a clip I did with my Maz Jr/AM Beano/Esquire.
Just going for some Rory Gallagher-ish tones.

It's all good Anything that gets folk interested in Treble boosters is fine by me - I think they are an under-rated option for those with a good amp to push (which most folk here do, right ? :-) )
