When the Stangray came out, everybody jumped all over them, some loved them, some didn't. Now the Z Wreck is coming out and everybody wants one including me..Do you think in 1 or 2 yrs they will be dime a dozen and all over the net up for sale? just curious on your thoughts. Dr Z is a marketing genius and makes a super product. Hopefully they hold the value and the mojo with those who purchase..I think they will..

At the end of the day...it's just an amp I have one ordered and I can't wait for it to arrive. However, I will still keep my other 3 Z's (and I'll get more). There will be people who don't like the amp for their style/tastes. You may find one for sale used pretty soon. I don't think you'll see the same level of participation as, say, a Stangray because of the price of admission ($3,700) and hence, i doubt you'll see big numbers for sale on the 'net. But you will inevitibly see some. Even today, Trainwrecks are being sold freely (expensive, yes) and these are the 'Holy Grail'. If you like what you hear...buy it and feel good for what you have. These amps will hold a decent used resale value just like Doc's other amps. However, if production is cut short..well, that's another story Keith

Only time will tell, but this amp is a league apart from anything I have ever played.

I think the fact that it's a package deal with head, cab covers and great tone, that it prices it out of the range of some tone freaks. At Z-Fest Dr. Z did say that it may not be for everybody. That being said, I don't see many of these being sold used. Some will for sure, but it's such a great sounding and looking package, and even used I personally feel they will be sold as the whole package but that these will be held onto dearly. When I heard and saw it at Z-Fest, yes I did want one, I still want one, but I know I won't use it to it's potential at this point in time. Poor excuse huh?

I played the AMAzing, "Harvey, flame maple, cabbed" "raffle" rig at Z-fest 2010, in a band setting, WFO, twice.......OMFG.......
It was spectacular, w/just a '57 goldtop(RI), and a PCNS cable. I simply cannot justify the $$ at present.
WTF....who am I kidding? I just spent the same money, on a vintage Gibson, yesterday. I rekon it's all a matter of priorities.
Fact is.....I am totally satisfied w/my current compliment of Z amps ( for the next 6 months, anyway).
The Z-Wreck, tho....DOES...have THAT tone. Were I able to justify, 7K, in the span of 1 year, for music gear..............Oh, yeah.....silver tolex, WUD.....be on it's way.
juss sayin'.......

I think you have a good point though - same thing happened with the Monza. I got one, didn't fit my needs, and traded it on for a Z28, which I adore.
However, I can't see it happening to the Z Wreck for the reasons given above: high entry price; package deal; the heritage of the Ken Fischer/Trainwreck connection etc. I think this may become the Doc's "signature amp", but it's not for everyone. I can really enjoy reading and listening about Train Wrecks and even Dumbles, and of course Z Wrecks, but I can't afford to be a "collector" and I know the 'Wreck would not suit my wallet or my needs. Won't stop me thoroughly enjoying everyone else's fun and games though ;D ;D ;D

Taken on its own, the Stang Ray is an amazing achievement. I have never owned anything quite like it. Of course I have owned a bunch of Z amps and can say that about several that I can think of. But the hype that caused a lot of us to go right out and buy a 'ray didn't even measure up to the real deal if you ask me. What an amazing amplifier. I hope the ZW will be a similar experience (and I have plenty of reasons to think it will be).

Interesting the comments on this. I seen the same thing happen with the Monza they were snagged up and now they are all over the place for sale. I hear you on the Wreck's cool factor and hopefully everyone that purchases one will bond with it in a special way. Maybe 20yrs from now it will appreciate not only in $$ but will become special to the families that own them.

Used Monza's all over the place? where? 1 or 2 used ones out of a few hundred sold. That's far from all over the place. Show me where there are more than 5 Monza's used available. Not to mention the fact 2 of them have changed hands more than once. If Doc has a specialty amp out, the closest would be a Monza.
Running to buy the latest and greatest is nothing new. People do it with Cars, Tv's, Computers, golf clubs, guns and whatever. Amplifiers are no different.
I think it speaks mountains that Doc amp seem to settle in regardless of average use at 60/70 % of their original cost. In a better economy even more so. All of those other items hold about a 10% resale value.
Bill Crook ( I am sure we all know who that is) told me that when he heard the Z Wreck he thought it was the best work Doc has done by far. He didn't say one of the best. He said the best. This was a good month before Z Fest. I took that as a really good endorsement. Seeing how I am sure Bill has heard just about everyone of Docs Amps. Being played by one of the best in the world. I have listened to all the various Amp demo's and normally it's really hard to tell on computer speakers. The Z wreck sounds pretty awesome. What I notice about the demo's is the Wreck sounds like the guitars being used. Do I think it will be a dime a dozen amp in the future? I doubt it. Look how many Maz Jr's have been sold. I wouldn't actually say the Internet is packed with dime a dozen used ones. None of Docs amps are in ready supply on the used market. You have to shop around an be patient. Unlike most of the other amp makers. Go to the Ebay page. At first it appears there are tons of amps. Once you start scrolling you see it tons of aftermarket cases and covers. In case you haven't gotten my answer to your question. It's no.
Your allowed one silly question a month and one ridiculous answer every six months. ::)answer.

Thanks for the info on how to look at Ebay..helpful. Just using the #5 as a reference pt not concrete number, however there are at this moment 3 (monzas) for sale in CA, 2 in NJ, 1 in PA not counting all the different boards selling gear, I would suppose that some could be one and the same.

The Monza is cool, but a relatively small percentage of players are looking for what a Monza does. The Z Wreck, on the other hand, does what a lot of players had only hoped for, but could never find.
I almost didn't buy the Z Wreck because of my disappointment with the Monza. That would have been a big mistake! If anyone turns out to be disappointed with the Z Wreck, then their expectations were probably way off base.
Yes, you'll see some of them for sale before long, but I suspect it will be because they are such big ticket items and have relatively high liquidity in this uncertain economy.

Um ..... I believe I have posted way more than one stupid question per month and certainly more than several stupid answers every 6 months since the outset of joining this forum! Um, will I be fined? jj I never said stupid. I said silly ..Stupids a whole new ball game..JK ..I am sure there are a few Monza's for sale but based on the number sold the percentage is low. Not to mention it's not an amp really designed to be versatile. From what I have seen the Z wreck is. If you look at Frankie"s early Monza Video's that's exactly what it sounds like. I'll use another example..I just bought a Fender La Cabronita single pup for 1800.00. It's one of the 1st that sold for 4800.00. My point is no matter what new gear comes out there's someone buying it that really is doing so because it's new. I'll be surprised to see many Wrecks for sale down the road. Maybe for cash flow reasons but not because it isn't a versatile amp. Sounds really versatile to me. Naturally I like it best with Single coils but I am a single coil guy. JMO not looking to hurt someones feelings I just don't care for negative comments. Especially one's that have no basis. What's the point in discussing failure of this or any new product before it's even been out 2 weeks. Maybe if you bought one and don't like it. But just to say it seems meaningless.

That being said, if someone buys on impulse, doesn't like it, and wants someone to take it off their hands, cash, no questions asked in a hurry (at 10% of it's purchase price of course!) please feel free to PM me Pete ps I won't be holding my breath though................ ;D

I think the interesting thing for me will be to see if it alters how I feel about retaining all my other Zs. The Wreck will be the fourth EL84 Z in the arsenal. I could envision relinquishing at least one.

people have to remeber that tone is subjective.. and so are amps.. many of the players would say that they would never buy a DUMBLE for 10K or more... but those who have tried them and used them went out and bought one.. its a tool of the trade.. and yes supply and demand dictates alot of whats being produced.. Since rumours of a Dr Z/Ken Fischer based tribute amp started, everyone cant wait to get one.. the Doc is a business man.. although a great guy and tone guru... doesnt anyone think that once everybody started asking about a Z Wreck (when he only had protoypes for Brad).. that he didnt get giddy at the prospect of producing this amp.. build it and they will come ... I have owned 5 Z amps in the last year.. I have settled on the MOnza for my personal tatstes... I had a StangRay, Maz JR NR, EZG 50 and a RX ... wicked amps (the whole lot of them) but found my tones using the Monza.. so thats what I stuck with.. I also have old Fender BF and Silverface amps that I really love for certain tones as well.. I think regardless of the hype and price.. it comes down to personal taste in tone..

Further, I intend to keep my Maz Jr NR and my Remedy even after my Z-Wreck arrives, because they both meet needs that the Wreck cannot (it's not a combo, after all; nor does it sound like a Plexi). So as you've said, it's an incredibly personal thing for all of us, this tone quest. And we are all likely to land on different things to satisfy it.

IMO,I think ZWreck owners will keep these amps for a very long time. Mine are not going anywhere.

Keeping to the automotive theme, the Z Wreck is like an F1 racer. It's built to be quick and responsive and to handle the tight curves as well as the straight-aways. It's not a dragster or a stock car and it's certainly not street legal.
Horses for courses!

I expect that used Wrecks will crop up from time to time. I don't think there'll be many initially for reasons already advanced by others. Over time, life circumstances will prompt some to part with a Wreck, willingly or reluctantly.
It is a special amp even for Z, but it is not a "do it all" amp in terms of covering every possible tone. For some, it may well provide sufficient range to be the only amp needed. For others, the Wreck may not cover the right bases. So the Wreck is not the culmination of Z tone, nor is it meant to be, as far as I can tell. For me, it is a brilliant and revelatory instrument for makimg music.
