Hey everyone, i just stumbled across this interview with Nels Cline where it seems like he used a Route 66 to record his recent album "Initiate". It seems like he used it for the whole album as that is the amp he mentions. Link: www.guitarplayer.com/article/nels-cline/July-2010/115809 I really like Nels, but I havent really got a chance to check this album out... From what I have heard it is Jazz/Fusion based.

That's a great interview. I've seen some you tube vids of nels playing with bill frisell where he is using a Z maybe a route 66.

Nels has used a Route 66 on the last couple independent recordings (i.e. non-Wilco) he has done in the studio. It really is a perfectly suited amp for him, as he prefers thick, warm tones without all the treble found in most amps, and it takes pedals extremely well. And I assume he favors the Route 66 whenever he doesn't need the extra headroom offered by his Schroeder DB7. He's also splitting his time between the loft in Chicago and his place in New York, and it's probably safe to assume that the Schroeder stays in the loft. Seems the Route 66 is his current non-Wilco favorite.
He's a really easy guy to talk to, and he likes to provide a lot of detail about everything he is into, so I'll be sure to ask him about it next time I see him (I end up seeing at least one of his "side projects" every year -- he's extremely active in the music scene of which I consider myself an exceedingly minor part [if it can be called a "scene"...]).

Nels had this really cool little write up, I forgot where I saw it but he talked about using different amps at different clubs and the Pro Jr was one he really liked. It was neat to read him say things about each amp at each venue. I found it faster than I thought I would! nelscline.com/amp-du-jourIMHO really good read. I am learning that sometimes less is more, I like a Twin but I have to keep my M12 at or below noon so I could not imagine trying to get a twin to sound right.
