I traded off my RXJr head for a Ver. 2 Mazerati head, and FedEx dropped her off today. Unfortunately, I had school this evening, and when I got home, the wife was knee-deep in homework w/ the kids. She tolerated about ten minutes of me playing unattenuated through a pair of Weber AlNiCo Silver 10"s before pulling the plug ("THE KIDS ARE TRYING TO DO HOMEWORK!..." ). In those brief ten minutes I heard some spectacular chiming cleans w/ my G&L ASAT Special. She started breaking up w/ that guitar around 1:00-2:00. Just for kicks, I plugged in my Charvel So-Cal (which has some pretty hot DiMarzio 'buckers), and it stayed clean up to 11:00-12:00! Even the So-Cal had this great bell-like clean tone. And that guitar isn't noted for it's cleans... The dirt, when I had it cranked, was very musical. I was looking to this amp as being primarily for cleans, but I was really digging the dirt! Lots more messin' 'round needs done w/ this one!

The 'rati is a great clean amp, but she'll give up the goods if you give her the goose!

I finally got the opportunity to use the Mazerati in a band setting! I used it in an A/B set-up as the clean amp. For my dirt, I used the GT. It was pretty cool. I usually run a stereo rig - both amps on all the time - but I can't find an amp that maintains the volume of the GT when I roll the guitar's volume back. I was hoping the Mazerati would keep up w/ the GT, but it, too, drops out way before the GT. Anyway, I ran the Mazerati into a Celestion Gold Z Convertible w/ the middle panel off. W/ the G&L ASAT, I got beautiful shimmering cleans. It almost sounds as if there's a chorus or reverb in there. I had the Tone and Vol set around 11:00. That paired up nice w/ the GT (both knobs at noon) Air Braked to four clicks. It was kind of cool to be able to step on the A/B box to go instantaneously from shimmering cleans to raunched out dirt without the swell from the volume knob (and if I needed the swell, I could just stay on the GT and roll back to some pretty decent cleans...). I wasn't a big fan of an A/B set-up, but the Mazerati and GT pairing might move me in that direction. Also, some home noodling revealed that the Mazerati and Galaxie play real well together...

Great sounds like a winner
