My standard stage setup is guitar > 15ft Canare cable > a couple of true bypass pedals with 4 inches of George L > 15 ft Canare cable > amp.
There is an obvious loss of high end sparkle and tone when I have the 15ft cable going from the board to the amp with all pedals off. If I replace the 15 ft with 3 to 5 ft of almost any generic or well respected instrument cable, I regain almost all of the high end. Shortening the cable between the guitar and pedals makes little difference.
I can do this with only one true bypass pedal in the chain (switched to bypass), but i get the same results. Does anybody else have this problem? Does anybody know of a cable that may not exhibit this problem? Has anyone tried the George Ls with long runs? I've only used them on my pedal board.

These don't have the problem: www.solidcables.com/ but you're looking at about $160 per 19 footer. Ouch. I'm betting you could get along fine with George L's the whole way which are much more reasonable.

Well, you could use a buffer/line driver at the end of your pedal chain. I know that's not the 'cable solution' you were looking for, but it's an option.
I really like the bayou cables. Very balanced and natural, with very little high end loss on long runs from pedalboard to amp...
That said, the true bypass pedal might be the culprit, believe it or not... An experiment to figure this out would be to try a 30 ft. guitar cable with no pedals in line. At least then you'd know if it was your pedal(s), or your pedalboard to amp cable run.

G'OlPeachPhan is right. I have a Tonebone classic here that I stopped using when I got my Flexi-50 because even though it is claimed to be true bypass, it was still sucking some tone. Not much, but I could definitely hear the difference with it out of the circuit.

Yeah, he's right of course, but I wish I had a dollar for every "buffered" unit that screwed up my tone. And I've had quite a few that did just that, especially with my Flexi - that thing is ultra sensitive to whatever is connected. Fortunately that doesn't seem to be the case with the Mazerati...

I'm trying to avoid the line buffer option, as I've tried some before that messed with the tone.
FYI Bayou cables are well made and he's a great guy to deal with. I roll my own using Canare cable & Neutrik connectors. Same cable as Bayou and he often uses Neutriks.
Any other cable proven suggestions. I'd like to avoid spending $160.00 on a solid cable, but then that may be my only alternative to try.
The Cornish article is very informative.

I run a 20 foot george L direct to amp with no loss of highs at all. Is the George L coming out of any pedals? If so, which one(s)? True bypass?

Has anyone heard of a valvulator? You run it in front of your effects. It changes your signal from Hi impedance to low via tube buffer circuit. Ive used it in the past, and it helps tremendously. www.vhtamp.com/product-news/valvulator1.html

I'd like to avoid spending $160.00 on a solid cable, but then that may be my only alternative to try. As a recording engineer friend of mine says, "Cable is the ultimate PT Barnum universe. People spend hundreds of extra dollars for no reason on cable."
