I once owned a 2004 KT-45 that sounded incredible as they all do. However, that particular amp had a 9001 DR Z transformer. I currently own a 2003 15th Anniv. KT-45 that holds a 8001 DR Z transformer. Which also sounds amazing BTW.
KT-45's are the TITS.
I was wondering, if the 8001/9001 Z transformer makes any significant change in tone or output?
I do recall a difference that may be in my head/memory alone that the 9001 had more headroom and clear articulation.
I had/have two Route 66's that both had 8001's (a 15th anniv and a 20th anniv.).
What is the good Doc putting in the new KT-45's.
P.S. The moral of this story is DON'T SELL ANY Z's! You will want them back again.

Sticker on top of the tranny (largest one). You may be able to look through the top vent on the cab, or pull the rear grill off, or if you still can't see it, pull the chassis. Thanks.

I'm interested in this sort of stuff too. I'm keen to make a little amp or 2 for kicks and am interested to know the difference that big components like the output transformer can make (lots of brands, options and prices for something that will run a little SE amp).
I've lent my 45 out at the moment, but I'll have a look when I get it back in.
Nobody playing mine has found a lack of headroom. Usually the opposite - almost too big for small bars (although I love the whole spectrum of the KT 45 - even low volume clean).
Z should get some nice demos of the KT45 done by one of his 'star/rs' so more people have the occasional glance at the KT45 thread. Can't believe how underrated this amp appears to be.

Tone difference? Anyone had a chance to compare? Why the build differences?

I had mine apart today for a bias and the big one is the power transformer. I think the output in mine is a 3232 and is not using the linear taps for inquiring minds. I'll double check tomorrow. If I have time I'll check my Route and my 6545 also. rp

i have a 2004 kt-45 and it has a 9001 in it, its clear and chimey even when its breaking up, its a lot like a clean Z-28 at lower volumes and doesnt get as greasy when breaking up as the Z-28 does.

Just had a look at my notes from the last time I had mine open and saw that mine is a 8001-240(volts) PT. The OT is 3232. Mines from around 09 or 10. not long ago, but long enough I can't remember exactly.
