It's here! A "new" 6545 - courtesy of Strange C - Thanks Rick! Haven't had time to really mess with it but so far I really like what I hear! (Edited for better pics ) Anyone have any idea why the serial # starts with 17? Doesn't seem to fit Steve's chart of manufacturing dates.

congrats on the new amp - it's a beaut (looks just like mine too) ;D
The 6545 is a monster and can be really loud, but the 65 side has a really good master vol control that actually works pretty well without sucking the heart out of the amp. If volume is an issue, there are plenty of tips here on how to tame it a bit (some work better than others).
I don't gig with mine as much as I'd like 'cause I do mostly smaller clubs (audiences of 200-400, usually) and it's a bit much for those venues so the Maz 18 gets the nod. But I'm doing a fairly large venue this weekend where I'm using the 6545 with a 2X12 (loaded with greenbacks), so I can't wait to air it out a bit.
It's a great amp and you get to "waste" time browsing 2 or 3 Z forums for the price of one.

Looked at the serial # on my 6545. Mine is P170031 (or something like that - can't remember the last two digits). Sequentially mine was probably made after yours, but I'd guess that the letter stamp didn't get fully imprinted on the chassis (the letter on my Maz is a little faint). You're probably looking at an "O" or a "P" year of mfg.

Thanks Teleric! I checked closer and indeed it had a lightly printed stamp - it is an M so means 2002 - knew it had to be one of the first ones made. +1

Rocked the house with my 6545 this weekend. We played a large hall and I was able to open it up a bit.
I was really surprised at how well the 45 side cut through the mix. Every time I switched over to the 45 side, it was like an instant solo boost. I realize there's a little bit of a volume "true up" beteween the two sides, but the 45 side cut through everything really well & I had it set onsiderably lower than the 65 side.

Congratulations Mike! It's a monster. Per my understanding the first two digits are the model Mine is M17007 so it's the 7th 6545 in 2002.
Here's a pic of the bad boy in action a few weeks ago at the Snohomish Taste of Music.

Todd I've got a ZBest but it doesn't have Celestions in it - Bobby Ray had it and put Eminence Red White and Blues in it. I have the normal speakers (bobby Ray also gave them to me) but haven't found time to put them in yet. Maybe we can do when you get hear to hear difference

cool on the new amp. I always like to see a new 6545 owner in hopes that the 6545 board will get a little more action.
It's a beast though, ain't it? A pair of greenbacks helps tame it quite a bit, but it's still a lot of amp. I don't get to gig with mine as often as I'd like as it's just too much for the rooms we play.
I'm keeping my 6545 in my band's practice studio now as we practice at brutally loud volumes (much higher than our stage volume) since it's the only chance we get to crank 'em up. I'm really taking a liking to the KT side as it sounds so good when it's roaring.

I have an attenuator that helps tame it. I did pull the SS rectifier tube out and put in a new GZ34. I think I like the tube rectifier better for my needs. The 65 side sounds great with a BB preamp in front. ;D Also my Wampler Plexi Drive jives well with both the 45 and 65. I haven't had a gig with the amp yet...as I don't play out until next month. Currently running the amp into a 212 cabinet with a g12h30 and vintage 30 speakers.

Yeah the BB sounds great in front of the 65 side (technially I run a BB plus - but pretty much the same thing - it's my go-to pedal for higher gain stuff).
I'm still looking for the perfect distortion pedal to pair with the 6545. I've got way more than my fair share of OD's & need something a little higher gain that is a little different flavor than the BB. Been using a wampler Triple Wreck lately, but its a little "fuzzy" for my tastes and compresses a bit too much (it does sound really good for drop D stuff like Pearl Jam, though).
I'm currently on the prowl for a Wampler Pinnacle - I'm thinkin' that might br the way to go.
And yeah, the GZ rectifier helps tame it a bit. It also helps (a little) to re-tube (and re-bias) the power section with EL34 tubes (25 watt), and not the EL34S tube (30 watts) that is spec for the amp. Winged Cs sound great in the 6545.

Congratulations Paul. I thought I heard some extreme b-bend tele picking over hear in the NW. Now I know. Hope you like it.
I use a BB and Box of Rock with mine but pretty much prefer the BB for super sustaining licks.

Thanks for the tube tips. BB Preamp, Plexi-Drive and Zendrive all kick booty with this amp. The Voodoo Labs Sparke drive -well the jury is out on that one.
Drew! Yes, she sounds really great with the bender.
I do like it with my hotplate attenuator. 8dB reduction you can still feel the power amp tubes. Great stuff! ;D
