Which atten. will work the best for my maz jr head w/reverb? I run it thru a new Z 1x12 cab w/ a g12h. I keep it closed backed as I guess home volume it doesnt matter. Just retubed it and it is sounding amazing. Got a couple of TAD's,I took 'em out after 5 minutes, anyone looking for a set, let me know, Ill send 'em to you,, right now Ill stick to GT's. I don't understand why Z airbrake is so expensive, but im lookin for whatever will work best. My dealer has 1 so I can borrow it. I have no idea what to expect so Ive got some learning to do. Master @9 volume @2 o'clock running my pedal is about as loud as I can get in my music room, any other suggestions for volume let me know....... thanks guys

Well you ARE on the Dr. Z forum, so you'll forgive me if I say you should consider the Airbrake. But it really is a great attenuator. Check out my attenuator test at drzamplifiers.proboards41.com/index.cgi?board=soundfiles&action=display&thread=1183466889 - don't cheat - listen to all the clips in the first post and see if you can tell one from another. Then go ahead and read the rest for the reveal later in the thread. I think you'll be surprised.

Hey Benttop, I listened to your Attenuator clips last night! I purchased a Z-AIRBRAKE to go with my GALAXIE 1X12 combo! I was able to correctly guess which Attenuator was used for the clips and I agree with your assessment that the HOT-PLATE adds some distortion as I was able to hear that even in the first listen of the clips! The Z-AIRBRAKE is definitely more "transparent" than the hotplate! I believe your test and clips are a great source for people interested in buying a Airbrake but don't have one to go and listen to!

Thanks. It was an interesting experiment, and although I thought I knew what the outcome would be, I was surprised that there was a difference between the two brands of attenuator. I've been using a Hot Plate for several years, but lately it's all Airbrake.

I've been using an Air Brake for almost a month now and won't gig anymore without it. Best unit unit on the market. Blows the HP and Minimass out of the water.
