Just wondering if anyone has done a side by side at different levels with clips. Thx.

DC here!
I have not but I would be very interested to partake of any such results - since I have a Weber Minimass myself? ;D

I'm thinking they are on a continuum, since both will affect the way your amp reacts a lot more at max attenuation and much less at minimum. When I was buying my minimass, I contacted Ted Weber and he admitted as much. He said at bedroom levels any one is a compromise. Brett

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but:
I'm looking to get either the Mini-Mass or AirBrake for my Maz 18 R 1x12 combo. This will be used primarily for bedroom practice, as I'm moving into an apartment.
Any opinions into which would be better? The Mini-Mass is 200 cheaper, which is a sell point, but I'd spend the extra cash if it was really worth it.
Any opinions are appreciated!

It depends on what you are after at practice level. Any attenuation seems to increase the amount of distortion, so you will always have to adjust gain and tone a little bit. I think that for rehearsal/practice we're being a bit fussy to be concerned about little changes, and that's just what they are- little changes. Personally, I've been very happy with the Weber mini mass both at music room level and gigs. I haven't used the Airbrake, but don't doubt it is better. Do I need it? No. Brett

I just started using a minimass and it works just great to me. I do run it with a 3db treble boost, but I can get the same feel out of my 66 now at volume levels that won't give my cat a seizure.
The main reason I opted for the Weber over the Airbrake was money, $200 extra is alot of coin for something that will really only be used for practicing.

I use both of my Airbrakes every time I gig, and they work great.

I use the Mini-Mass and it works great. There really is no tone change caused by the attenuator. I personally like the idea of the inductive load approach.

I use the Mini-Mass and it works great. There really is no tone change caused by the attenuator. I personally like the idea of the inductive load approach. The tone is very close. The biggest difference I noticed is that the amp distorts a little more when there is a lot of attenuation, which doesn't hurt at times. It's just sometimes a surprise when you turn up and find there's less distortion at a given volume setting and the OCD responds differently (better). Brett
