My old beat up '57 Pro Amp was owned and used for decades by Tom Brumley, the pedal steel player for Buck Owes and the Buckaroos! Unfortunately Tom crossed over to the next life this past year, and I'm the lucky guy who got his amp from his wife. She was very happy that it went to a player. No wonder Tom loved it, cause it sounds like a million bucks! It has bass and treble and presence controls, and each one has a wide range of variability, giving the amp a ton of tones. It also plays through a 15" Jensen speaker! The bass on this amp is so rich, so well defined that you do not want to turn it down and you can't seem to stop playing low notes, cause it just sounds so good. This amp is pretty clean sounding until you get it turned up past noon, then can get pretty dirty up around 2 o'clock. Unfortunately, by that time it is quite loud, just a little less loud than the Bassman, so not very useful for distortion around the house. Might be OK for a pretty good sized club, but I have not gigged this amp. The big 15" speaker is so nice and round sounding in the lows, that the 2-12 cabinet the Gal was going through never quite reached it, but it was close, and the Gal settings that follow are very pleasing and very reminiscent of the Pro. Maybe a 4-12 would do it more justice. One more thang here: a tip-o-the-hat to Troutstrat for his Gal settings post where he advised you to turn the bass control all the way up, which cuts the mids out, then dial the bass back down til the mids return. This is the bass setting I used below, and is a killer sound. Thanks Troutstrat! (What the H does that name mean?)
The Good News: presence maxed, bass 4:00 (just backed out of the mid cut thang), treble 2:00, volume 1 set at 11:30, but the Air Brake was set on 0, so the Gal is wide open here. This setting is pretty clean, but you can just dial up the volume 1 control for some dirt, and back down a click or two on the brake to make it tolerable. These settings are great for low volumel playing and singing along with all by your little lonesome self of an evening. I never tire of this sound playing all sorts of tunes, esp the blues.
Enjoy.
