My cigarette burned, ugly old '59 Bassman is about as good a sounding amp as you could ever want, and with bass/middle/treble and presence controls, it has a ton of potential tones to choose from. Only one problem: it's loud as heck! Way too loud to play at home, and quite a bit too loud for most gigs. Sounds great with pedals, but who wants to run pedals and booger up such a great sounding amp? I'm more of a plug straight into the amp kinda guy. Lucky for you if you own a Galaxie, you can get the identical sound of this classic amp! I was able to dial in an identical sound, despite the fact that I played the Gal through 2-12's, and the Bassman plays through 4-10's. The Good News: presence max, bass 10:00, treble 3:30, volume 1 I had set at 12:30, but the air brake was on 0, so volumes are about the same. This was actually a pretty clean setting, even when you dime the Tele (remember, I said it was loud!), but if you jack it up on the Gal', it's gonna get dirty as you want, just like the Bassman does. Bassman I like at about 7-8:00, but it's so freakin' loud! Nice thang on the Gal is, when you get the tone with these settings, then you can click back the brake to make the room volume reasonable. Nice at 2 clicks back. I forgot to mention on my intro post that I'm not yet a fan of channel 2 on the Gal - too midrangy for me. I like the sound of channel 1 turned up to distortion level of choice Dig it.

Give channel 2 some time to grow on you. I wasn't a big fan either when I first got the amp. I was too enthralled with the tweedy sweetness of channel 1. But, when I did sit down and give channel 2 a chance, I began to understand it more. It's not really intended to be a "lead" channel. At least that's my take on it. It's really more of a totally different amp in the same box. Muuuuch more Marshall than Fender. I don't know how big you are on tube-swapping, but a 5751 in V1 tames things down a bit-but on both sides of the amp. Another alternative is putting a 5751 in the PI. That said, I only recommend using NOS 5751's b/c the new ones aren't anywhere close to what a 5751 is supposed to be. Anyway great posts! I'm gonna have to give your settings a try. It sounds like fun!

Thanks Mitch. I think you're on to something here. I am simply enthralled with the channel 1 sound and can't seem to get enough of it, so I haven't given channel 2 a chance. I did, for just a minute, do the twisty dial thang while in channel 2 and found that I could dial in a more pleasing tone, but then I had to leave cause I wanted to get back and soak up some more of that channel 1 vibe! It'll come with time.
