Be sure and tell her how nice she looks... Maybe buy her dinner ... Soft lights, maybe a little jazz just to start things off nice & mellow...

After some quality play time, w/both hummer/single coil guitars, I have reached a conclusion......
If you have been "on the fence", as I was, just go ahead & have the surgery done. I absolutely, LOVED the Presence control on this amp, for dialing in singles/hummers, but........the trade-off is a waaaay more manageable V2.
Pre-mod, I had to settle for either,
1. Too much of a volume boost, when kicking in channel 2. I always compensated by quickly turning down the guitar vol.
2. Not enough "dirt" for my leads, due to not being able to crank channel 2.
Post-mod.......I can set channel 2 anywhere I like, and control the mix between the channels w/the MV.
As for dialing in different pups....... You Galaxie players already know, that the tone stack on this rig, affects the overall gain structure in a BIG way.
After several hours, I have found, that by turning the Bass/Treble down a little lower than I previously did(pre-mod), and turning up the CH1 vol for my overall tone, I CAN use the Treble control as a psuedo Presence control, w/out everything getting too gainy.
I fought this for years, but am glad I pulled the trigger on it. I now have a killer Tweed/Marshall rig in one box. NO FX required (except maybe a little verb/delay).
Hope this helps the peeps that are considering the mod.

I need a fix, man. + 1 ... bumpin' this thread back to the top .... while it may be a few more weeks before I get my Galaxie combo back to the collection, I'm curious to hear some more of the T-rock Toneage that we've all come to know and love .... Hey T, Great to hear you are digging the MV! But I don't think I could survive not having the presence knob. Always loved that feature in Fender amps, not giving it up in my Z!

Recently had a chance to spend some time with a MV Galaxie and a non-MV Galaxie w/ 61 SG ri and a coupla other guits .... I found myself favoring the non-MV ..... mainly playing on Channel 1 - it's what made/makes me happy ..... for me, I guess having the presence control and not being one to be switchin' channels too often might explain it .... that said, I'd be happy to have 'em both in the collection cheers always, eh Joel

Plenty of room for both on that chassis. Just need to drill another hole.

It is still in the circuit but it's preset to what they feel is the sweet spot. I believe if you ask T*ROCK (the creator of this thread) he'd probably tell you that there was some discussion with Dr.Z about having both the presence and MV. I seem to recall a response to someone by the Doc on this and I can't find it, but it had something to do with that idea being a bit over the top. May have something to do with how the mod works in that circuit. My guess is that if it was a good idea it would have been offered, but maybe someone else here can find it. I only resist the mod because I'm happy with it the way it is for how I want to use the gain channel in relation to channel one ( i.e. I don't care if it gets real gnarly at lower volume ). What I do love is that sweet midrange sing that is not that distorted at lower volumes and then back to channel one for chords.

The presence circuit which works off of negative feedback is in both versions. The master vol version has a set resistor instead of a pot/variable resistor. In my opinoin I think it boiled down to not having a new batch of face-plates made or modifying the chassis.

^^^^^^^^^^
PRECISELY..... on ALL counts. However....I found that while trying to gig the Galaxie w/out the "mod", it was great, as long as you didn't change guitars, or engage an FX pedal & then switch channels once you had it dialed in at soundcheck. If you set it up, & get it dialed the way you want to play it all night, with the guitar/FX you want all night..... I'd say NO to the mod.
REAL world...........
You can just get that BIG bottle 6L6 "Tweedy" grind on the same level you're funkin' out on AFTER you hit that switch, w/the MV mod, regardless of guitar/FX/channel. I LOVE this amp. DEFFLY, my fave in the Z lineup(that I have played), BUT...... it IS one temperamental SOB when it comes to balancing the two channels in its stock configuration.
I SWORE NObody was gonna take my Presence control away from me. But.... I tried the MV mod as an experiment, w/the understanding that I cud go back to "zero".
Galaxie #3, will retain the MV mod until MY expiration date.

Let me ask you all, would a two channel with blend like a Remedy be good, no Master with Presence, or a two channel switcher like the standard Galaxie, with Master to control the Hot channel and bring back Presence?
There are a couple of DIY sites trying to uncover the magic of the Galaxie, when set-up right it would really is a great sonic weapon.

hey doc, I had a galaxie and well, you know the issues I had, yes I think a blended volumes would work great however most of us like to use in a 2 channel fashion. the Master would benefit the over all use IMO. Bring it back!!!! I dearly miss my gal and considering another!

But... that's just me.

I had and sold a Galaxie only because it lacked a MV. Stage volume is always an issue for me so I vote for 2 channel with MV and presence:)
